Is HD television available in any way in Thailand?

If so what's available?

Thanks

:o

Yes...by satellite.....a French channel , a Chinese channel and recently an Indian channel.

Nope.

You can find a few HD-DVD discs (and it's really only a few), but that's about it. No broadcasts, no satellite, no cable. No concrete plans. Think about the fact that just setting up a sat news channel is this hard (look at the current news), and you'll know why it's not something that will happen in the near future. There are no standards set, and so all HDTVs sold in Thailand do not have any terrestrial HD tuners (as in they cannot receiver off-the air digital HDTV broadcasts without an external tuner box).

I expect UBC will launch some high def channels in the next couple of years, they have been buying up HD content recently from the states, You won't need an OTA TV receiver in your TV to watch it as the feed will come from the sat box. They may try and swing it over their IPTV offering, also they have a Tivo like device in the offering sometime soon.

Can get most HD-DVD's here, ask them and they will get any release for you, price is 1,200-1,800 baht.

Anybody checked out the HD sat channels here yet ?

Called Sony Thai...they've got the HD tv's but they haven't tested them yet on live tv as they've no HD sat receivers in Thailand . Truly amazing...they could bring in a two hundred quid Humax HD box and try out their tv's if they knew how !!

Err... no, there isnt anything for the sat boxes to pick up and they do have access to HD content as most demonstrations in TV shops use HD content streamed from a hard disk.

Hi to those with HD tv's in Thailand or thinking of buying

Anyone tried out the live HD tv on satellite here yet ?

Looking at reports and screenshots from Jsat the Kiwi sat expert the quality of the programmes on Luxe tv on Eutelsat is excellent . The Indian HD tv is aweful and the Chinese HD tv....well he doen't seem yet to have got round testing this !

ps the best and most versatile HD receiver to buy is the Humax 2000......cost around 200 quid only.

ps 2 the free sat progs will probably be better value than the new HD players due out later this year in UK
