What is Thai word for racial riot?

What is Thai word for racial riot?

No such concept exist in the Thai language because they have not bought into Western PC BS. Isaan people percieved to be getting out of hand could be viewed as such.

In English : Racial Riot

In Thai : จลาจลทางเชื้อชาติ

In Phonetics : Clācl thāng cheụ̄̂xchāti

Example usage : จลาจลทางเชื้อชาติในสิงคโปร์เมื่อราวคริสต์ทศวรรษ 1960 (Racial riots in Singapore around the 1960s)

Thanks.

Is there a short informal word for 'riot' because  จลาจล seems like a very formal word.

What do Thai people call the different ethnic groups in Thailand like Thai Chinese, Thai Malays, Thai Khmer?

Is it เชื้อชาติ or something else?

I think I would build the phrase around the verb ปะทะ, an informal term meaning to clash violently. Although not all riots are clashes between groups, since you are talking about a racial riot, a fight between groups is implied.

You might see this word used in a phrase like เต็กเทคนิคปะทะกัน when gangs from rival technical schools fight, a common news item. A natural construction would name the racial groups fighting: คนขาวกับคนดำปะทะกัน-- blacks and whites fighting.

A less colloquial, more general phrase might be something like ความรุนแรงระหว่างกลุมเชื้อชาติ -- which translates to as "violence between ethnic groups."

A very simple word but not necessarily accurate, used by Thais is the English word 'mob'.

อาละวาด is a good word: means running amok, kicking off, that sort of thing - but it only applies to individuals or small groups eg หนุ่มอาละวาดเจ้าของร้านไม่ขายเบียร์ให้เด็กต่ำกว่า 20 ปี

For full-scale riot จลาจล is the way to go.

เผ่าพันธุ์ means ethnic (เผ่า being 'tribe') as in 'ethnic cleansing' การฆ่าล้างเผ่าพันธุ์

จลาจล is a Sanskrit word and all Sanskrit words are too formal that most Thai don't use.

I just want to communicate to an average Thai guy a common informal word.

Anyway, thanks everybody. I've got the word.
