Six Patong taxi and tuk tuk driver suspects remain in custody following the assault of a middle eastern tourist. Two video clips of taxi drivers attacking the tourist in Patong went viral in social media last week.

Six suspects were arrested by Opting Police last week.

Patong Police say they will face charges of assault causing serious mental and physical injury.

But good too see that these guys are still in jail rather than the reported 500 baht fine.

Maybe it should read, opting to turn themselves in?

Agreed, good to see them being denied bail.

“They have been refused bail while the investigation is in process. If police granted them bail, then the suspects might flee the charges,”

Funny how it's mostly the poor (the very people who couldn't go very far for very long) who are refused bail on the common-sense precedent of "suspects might flee charges".

I hope these scumbags get proper prison time. I won't hold my breath, though.

These thugs have already spent more time in prison than I would have  thought possible.

What a change from a case a few years ago when a group of these criminals chased and stabbed 3 Australian lads, seriously injuring one of them.  The drivers were temporarily arrested until another, non-involved, Tuk Tuk driver appeared and claimed the boys had kicked his vehicle causing minor damage. The cops then threatened the tourists with  charges of criminal damage, and a long stay in remand awaiting a distant court date, unless they dropped their charges and departed.

They left, case closed.
