BKK or KL - Which one is better?

Featured Replies

when my tourist visa ends in a couple of months i am thinking about visiting KL for a while.

I have read online that its a good place to be, similar to bangkok but safer and better infrastrucutre.

has anybody here been? any advice where to stay, eat, drink etc?

also, which one is a more liveable city, bangkok or kuala lumpur?

thanks!

thanks for that.

it looks really appealing.

better food? wow, really? I love thai food so it's gotta be really good to beat that.

What's with all these first-post newbies with Die Hard related screen names?

Is it some sort of contest? Spot the shill?

KL is fine .....  I wouldn't say better, as it depends on what you base your assessment on.

KL does have good food ....  Thai has good food also ....  but I wouldn't go to KL for the beer or sex. Just saying ... everywhere and everyone has different tastes.

Dunno why youd say that, plenty of both to go around. Alot more choice too.

Plenty of nightlife in KL.

Go to Changkat Bukit Bintang walking street area, or the bars near petronas twin towers like The Beach Club on fridays after 11pm.

There are some good expat bars about, I think it's Julan Chang road or similar name,  anyway it's at Bukit Bintang area. I was there a few weeks ago.

Maybe Jalan Raja Chulan.

"but safer and better infrastrucutre."

Sorry, but couldn't help smiling to myself. I can think of a few reasons for choosing one place over another...but the "infrastructure" as a reason wouldn't immediately spring to mind.

Have been there twice over the years. Once for a work related Thai visa. Very nice city. People were very friend. Clean city. I loved traveling on the subway system. I can't tell you about cost of living there. The one thing I noticed mist was the way they drive. Safer and when the lights change everyone Stops. Same at crosswalks. Heavy heavy fines for not stopping. Research in Google. You can learn alot about the city, people. A number of articles have listed he cost of living and compared with different cities and countries in world.

I visited first time a few weeks ago. Stayed at Robinson apartments and ate a lot nearby at a place they call eat street (Jalan Alor) . Food was just OK. Beer was twice cost of what I am used to in Hua Hin. It's a Muslim country and although people were generally friendly it didn't feel as friendly as Thailand, even compared to Bkk. It was very hot and humid and really reminded me of Bkk. You needed to be indoors in the middle of the day. Transport was not as easy as bkk but for sure way less traffic.

better in every way. food, shopping. transport. a first class symphony, parks.  stunning city. and it's clean and well organized. and i can find my shoe size

For me I could never live in KL.

Safer? Noooo. Pickpockets are everywhere. My friend got robbed in her driveway getting out of the car. Better food? I don't each much Thai food and I never eat Malaysian food when in KL.

Better language skills yes, cleaner air sometimes. Friendlier ppl excl. airport immigration and security.

See for yourself. KL may suit you.

Having had the pleasure of living in both I would never return to KL or Malaysia to live.

The national religion is getting to become a problem for me (Shah Alam is now dry ).

Accommodation, night life (the good stuff) very expensive.

It all gets a bit boring but depends on what you want.

Go check it out for a month first before jumping

Bangkok has the air of festivities compared to KL which is too boring for my taste. Thai people are  more sanuk and up to celebrate at the slightest opportunity.

KL people more serious in their outlook and looked more stressed.

I lived in KL a week every month and 2 weeks in Bangkok monthly.

Amenities wise, both cities are similar but it is the people that makes the difference.

Better English.....yes

better manners.....sometimes

better food......never...unless it’s Indian

cheaper....depends on what you’re buying

safer roads.....generally yes

better air...not always

everyone will have their own view and only you can decide if it’s better for you. Personally a few days in KL is enough for me. For me, Penang wins every time...but not to live.
