Perhaps China don't want too, you know, spend the cash..

The PM acknowleged the issue and is doing something about it. This smog is more harmful than tobacco or drugs. The long term health effects include cancer, emphysema, asthma, congestive heart failure, birth defects.  Loss of tourist revenue is another negative effect. Burning, Song taus, Tuk Tuks are the problem.

Ordering this to be fixed in 7 days clearly shows he does not have the first clue about the issue. I look forward to his excuse in a weeks time when things are about the same as they are now.

He also would like to be the next PM in 7 days also.

What you want and what you get are sometimes not what you end up with.

The burning issue has been around since December 2018 and every year before it,has he just realised it or would it be political to now show concern.

This county is still bogged down in a 3rd world mentality,no leadership, devoid of intelligence or compassion.

I pity the poor Thai people, a lifetime of being annually poisoned

Yes, more or less. Like every year for decades, it's stopping around Songkran. Can't see what all the fuss is about.

Yes, that has been the pattern in LOS(land of smoke) for the 18yrs I've been here. However, last year the smog lingered into the far-end of April, this year instead of abating it is actually intensifying into April.

Hope this is just a "spike" in the pattern and not an emerging "new-normal".

Typical....demanding an immediate resolution to a long term problem. The fires can be put out and reduce the smog but there is a lot more going on than just the fire. Of course any reduction will let Uncle claim that he has invoked the people to act and the Gods to bless his demands and once again he has saved the day.

Don't burn shit at all would be a start. If a forest fire have a airplane drop fire retardant. If they have airplanes to salt clouds for rain, they can drop other stuff.

Prachinburi has suffered its fair share of smog and pollution.

Voila, it has rained heavily for 2 of the last 5 days. Pollution in the air - what pollution?

Filth and rubbish on the streets - what rubbish?

All washed down the gutters and canals and eventually out to sea.

The paddies are wet and all last minute burning has stopped.

Thank god for the start of monsoon season.

Shame about the pollution in the sea.

Sea you later. Most of my village has never seen the sea, so who cares.

We had a little rain last night and strong winds. When the sun is up I am hoping that the smoke will be gone or cut way down. With all of the fires still burning I fear that the smoke will come back.

Hmmm.... 7 days. More likely this smog will take at least 7 years to clean up from practices that have existed for 70 years I would say.

The Junta thought he was so smart and clever, that he decided to implement a coup and take over running of the country, he's just proved again he ain't too bright, having to tell others to sort it, when he's got no bright solutions to the problem himself.

Canute in action in Chiangmai, turning back the tide.

What has this to do with King Canute?

Do you actually understand the story?

Canute took his admirers to the beach to demonstrate that he was only human and COULD NOT control the tides.

Please read my reply to another poster or actually read the story of Canute.

Canute was showing his followers that he was human and COULD NOT control the tides.
