Why is it so difficult to understand?  Nothing  is black and white.. Just imagine a sliding scale with one end representing two people  with the most extreme gap in age and looks,  the other being  a couple of similiar  age and attractivness. At the end  of the scale where there is the  closest match in age and attractiveness,  interlect and interests  etc, there is also the chance of very  little if any payment involved in the relationship, just like anywhere else in the world. Now slide the scale to where there is a wide gap in physical attraction or age , interest etc and the  amount you are likely to  be paying for the privalage of that girls company  gets  expensive. One way or the other she'll want her fair pay as she sees it.    Some play  the short  game some the long game but  one way or another she'll get her money. If you try to  resist thinking you  are smarter than her, she'll make your life living hell  and conconct all sorts of excuses how to  squeeze it from you.  If that doesnt work there the 'old  fell off a balcony' chestnut... The fee she asks should also tell you  how attractive you are to her...   50k / month I'd say she thinks you are reasonably stupid, unattractive or not  good in bed;  what ever yard stick she is measuring you  by.. but not quite as  far down the scale as that represented by  Nong Nat.  Good luck!

At 31 you don't need to "pay" anyone to "look" after you. Just go to the local when you need a bit -cheaper, no dying kwai or other fabrications to extort you and the bonus is you can have a different one every time

The first one I moved in insisted on 4x a day and tried for number 5 (usually unsuccessfully)

The next one (I married) was trying for a baby and said I had to do it 3x a day to ensure pregnancy.

Ten years later, 2-3x a week is all I can manage.

I was told by a financially successful married Thai friend that the 50,000 is indeed a general benchmark of expectation. It's what he gives his wife and more but when he directed me to do the same in order to insure love and loyalty

I had to point out the major flaw that many guys who go to Thailand or live  there seem to ignore or overlook.  

 Women outnumber men in Thailand . I posted this in another thread but it is also relevant here. Scarcity creates value , excess creates devaluation.  Also, the older they get the closer they are to expiration in their culture in addition to the baggage of kids from a previous relationship with a Thai guy before heading out to strike up a lucrative deal with a so called rich foreigner.  Trust me this is not the Kansas city strip club where 10 guys  sit around a fat mother of 5 pole dancer and throw tips hoping she will let them put a dollar in her bra.  The girls working in Thai bars are only a drop in the bucket compared to the ones who are available.  Widen your scope and you won't need a telescope to find them for a lot less than 50000bht a month.................

So far i know, anything more than about 51.5% female is considered extreme and i've never seen 52...maybe.  So how much difference would that make, practically?

The ratio was 51.16% females in 2015 ... it has fallen pretty consistently since 1950, they say, with women starting to outnumber men by 1985.

Dinosaur perspective:

 

Shortly after I met my Thai wife-to-be in 1977 up in Loei in the market, I did pay her to do my laundry (not much).  I don't think either one of us ever thought of the relationship as boyfriend/girlfriend.  I did hang out at her house sometimes and we'd sometimes see a movie with an entourage of siblings or her girlfriends in tow.  No good girl would be seen alone with an unrelated male friend back then.  I did kiss her once after we got engaged.  Simpler times.

 

When it came time for me to leave Thailand, I didn't want to leave her behind.  She really had no interest in coming to the US, but we had grown fond of each other.  In the last 40 or so years, she's worked her ass off, raised our two boys and cared for the house.  Worked part-time for many years as well.  She's always had joint access to our money and is frugal as hell. So there are some sensible ones out there.

 

However, she is of Vietnamese parentage, so there's perhaps a bit different mindset.  Hard-headed, ambitious, cheap-asses. 

 

So, guys, go slow, go easy and think with your head, not your pecker.
