Finding Health Insurance / Evaluating coverage from Thai SS

Featured Replies

Hi I am 34 with a 29 year old wife and 4 year old kid. I have Thai Social Security with my job and work permit which gives me a card for a local hospital (Mission Phuket) which I am due to get from my accountant soon.

Questions:

1. I wonder if that card covers my family or only me, and what types of things it covers.

2. Please point me in the right direction to evaluate and possibly buy upgraded private insurance for myself and the family.

Thanks for any feedback!

Where are your wife and kid from?

That means they are already eligible for the 30 Baht insurance scheme.

The social security scheme I think also covers them, but I'm not sure. With Mission hospital you have a good hospital already, there really is no point at all to upgrade to anything.

The SS covers only you, the employee. And it covers pretty much everything, in and outpatient.

Your wife & children are, as stated above, covered under or the 30 baht scheme. All Thai citizens not covered under SS are under the 30 baht system. They can only use govt hospital, though. Have to go first to whichever hospital covers the area they live - in Phuket this will be either Vachira (the main provincial hospital) or Patong Hosp or Thalong Hosp. These last two are very small community level facilities and will refer anything major to Vachira. ( have to get referral letter first before going to Vachira, though, in order to avoid being charged.)
