That sums it up. Prayut is still in favour with the real crowd running the country.

Well, I would not bet that Prem is in favour.....

I love the nauseating exchange of meaningless mutual praise quoted in the article.  Breaking their arms patting each other on the back...a cruder figure of speech to describe this is more appropriate but wouldn't live long on this thread.

Are perchance you remembering Mark Latham in the Australian Parliament describing members of the opposition 'a conga line of a*** lickers'

Patriotism is a dangerous sort of madness, it clouds the mind to truth and allows any number of atrocities in its name.

Not always it really depends on the individuals running the country.  Patriotism can often provide unity in difficult times.

Does the concept of 'Separation of Powers' enter the thoughts of this bunch? In Australia for example it is defined as:

"The doctrine of the separation of powers in Australia divides the institutions of government into three branches: legislative, executive and judicial. The legislature makes the laws; the executive put the laws into operation; and the judiciary interprets the laws."

Reading the original article, in particular the reply from Mr P to his mentor, he appears to have a completely alternative view.

Prem praises ‘non-corrupt’ government

One general absolves the other general from any hint of corruption...I can only imagine the intense feeling of relief coming from the people!

can we see a declaration of wealth increase over the last 3 years and a full audit of where the funds came from - the scope of the declaration should include close relatives/family members

Cruder than that, actually, but your quote captures the dynamic nicely...and reminds us this isn't only a Thai thing. In the context of such world-beating venality and corruption, it does come across as particularly egregious here in the Land Of Solipsism/Sycophantry/Sanctimoniousness/All of the Above.

Though sycophantry is the only charge I would level at Thais in general vs. the politicians/elite, who definitely win the trifecta.

For a minute there I thought it was April 1.

It's always April 1st in Thailand.

Funny man . He is almost 99 and he still has that typical Thai black humor. Thai army not corrupt ????  ????  ???? . It's like saying John Holmes was virgin.  He made my day....
