Cataract Surgery in Chiang Mai

Featured Replies

Hi, I've read all the threads that I could find already.    Most are outdated.

Would like to know if anyone recently had cataracts removed here in Chiang Mai within the last year or so and post the particulars.    Hospital, doctor name, satisfaction with both, and cost, etc.

Thank You.

Moved to health forum.

People have had ti done recently at Sripat. For monofocal lens (standard lens) cost about 50k per eye.

Associate Professor Winai Chaidaroon comes well recommended and is a cornea specialist

If you get multifocal lenses that pushes the cost way up. Most people get the standard monofocal lens and reports on the more expensive multifocal are mixed.

if you want to reduce the need for reading glasses afterwards you can go for what is called monovision, in this they make one eye 20/20 and another slightly nearsighted. This works well for a lot of people , after a couple of days their brain adjusts and automatically uses one eye more for distance and one more for up close, but some  people cannot adjust to it. Therefore  if you plan on this you should first do a trial of it by wearing a contact lens in one eye top simulate what it will be like afterwards - the doctor can explain this and provide it.

In Ubon I just paid a total of 38k for both eyes to be fitted with +14 lens's so I no longer need glasses, only for reading....That was at a Thai army hozzy....

Sorry, that don't help the OP..

Had one eye done at Sripat about 2 years ago, the same Dr. that Sheryl mentioned she was trained in Australia. Have a catarac forming in the other eye now will be going back to see her again.

Thanks all for the information provided.    Was hoping to get more replies.

To those repplied, have you heard any feedback from anyone about Dr. Rachada, from RAM hospital?     I have seen her a few times in the past years.    Can anyone give a thumps UP   or    DOWN     to refer to Dr. Rachada.

Thangs again.     Shooting for surgery date sometime in June.

Dr Nawat at RAM is one of the top eye specialists in the country.

Sorry to hear that mate. Nawat is a top guy. I went to see him when I had chorioretinopathy. I was extremely anxious thinking I was going blind.

Since then I have heard from my girl he is the “teacher of eye doctors “ in Thailand. And apparently, his father was the specialist appointed to the last king.

Cataract surgery is the most common opthalmologic surgery and any competent opthalmologist can do it.

Although Dr. Ritchada's area of specialty is orbital disease and oculoplastics, she can certainly do a cataract removal.

Note that it will cost significantly more at CM Ram than at Sripat.
