Carlton vs Melbourne (MCG) Fox 1:10pm

Two sides who have spent the last few decades tormenting their fans on a level that would normally be referred to as bullying.

I’m looking forward to going to this about as much as a serious surgery with no anaesthetic.

The Blues fans started the season with no hope and things got worse from there, until David Teague came along and suddenly the Carlton faithful have hope.

Melbourne fans started the season with hope and then it plummeted away like a plane in a downward tailspin, except there’s no end to it. There’s no sweet ground rising up to take away all this pain.

A loss here and it won’t be the worst humiliation they’ve had in recent years; it will just be another they can add to the very impressive collection they’ve built up.

Either side can lose this, Melbourne should win, but they shouldn’t be 16th on the ladder, so making the impossible come true is sort of their thing, in a negative way.

Carlton wins here and they would need to start seriously considering making Teague their permeant coach. I know he doesn’t bring the big reputation Carlton boards usually go for, but he wins, and I think Blues fans could come to like that.

In this case I think the Dees will win but I’m not confident.

Carlton for me

Geez I'm having problems picking nose this week.  Have you Monday's paper delivered already

McGovern and Barrass giving it the Harry Highpants treatment after last nights derby.

Bloody hell, how appalling is the umpiring in the 1st quarter of saints/north game.  I've never commented on umpiring before but Geez this is disgusting.  4 free goals.

Well gents

All over again with another round of upsets.

The clear winner this week is FJ who picked an amazing 8.

Alex also sneaks up to equal 3rd.

Until next week.

Well done FJ. 8/9 is excellent. You missed picking the easiest game of the round. ????

Well at least 2 of us picked Brisbane.

The comp is as even as i've seen it bar GC with to many injuries for a young side.

Pure luck getting 8 but will take it.

Didn't see the Lions beating GWS thinking they are still pretenders but have changed my mind now.

A few tense moments for the Roos in the 2nd quarter but held sway well in 2nd half.

Look forward to next week against the Bombers who gave us a touch up earlier in the season.

Superb tipping joe, must be something in the water over your way.

A complex round for tippers, when 4/9 moves you up the ladder.

Crows fans in Adelaide carried out a variation of Port supporters "march to the ground" before the game by marching from the ground at 3/4 time.

Must have really inspired their players....

Well congratulations on your selections this week. Was not long ago you were keeping me company at the bottom and from memory you did say that while I was within 5 points I could still possibly pass you but this seems to have given you a bit of a spurt on and you are making a late run!!! Now I have Radar for company but even he is skating away from me, maybe I should be looking at getting the worst score for all time, does anybody know if that is achievable???
Good luck to all those doing better than me, maybe next year

I have searched the archives, and the lowest end-of-year score I found belongs to....Radar501.....in 2018 just past.   He managed a very ornary 89 correct tips for the entire season.

Your tally of 69 after round 16 means you will need 19 or less in the remaining seven rounds.  If you really want to challenge Radar for that record, it will require some committed tanking.  Achievable?

You can check your AFL Tipping competition overall ranking on the site Gaz, it's right under your name.

I suspect that many have had a bad year, I'm 46044 / 267884 which is higher than deserves.

I'm sure that there are thousands well below you.

A wrap up of the Melbourne/Carlton game courtesy of Mr O'Reily.

Carlton (100) v Melbourne (105)

There was not a lot of winners in this. Carlton didn’t win, football certainly lost, and Melbourne, while technically getting four points, didn’t really win.

Carlton probably came the closest to winning, they had Patrick Cripps, Harry McKay and Charlie Curnow all missing and still almost won.

If they managed to learn how to start games, they’d be unstoppable.

The game itself was a glorified game of kick to kick, as both teams turned the ball over with such regularity they might as well have all been wearing the same jumpers.

Melbourne dominated for large parts of this game and had a 38-point lead in the third quarter and still managed to give up their lead.

Now to be fair, Melbourne had lost Marty Hore after he suffered a broken collarbone, Tom McDonald, who’d booted six until he went off after hurting his knee and Harry Petty who was on the bench with a concussion.

Add to this Max Gawn was an out before the game.

Still, it’s hard not to think there were plenty of times Melbourne could have finished the job early only to not convert their opportunities.

When a Mitch Hannan kick from beyond 60m bounced all the way to an unguarded goal square, only to stop dead, millimetres from goal, every Melbourne fan saw it as a metaphor for our cursed existence.

Luckily, Jayden Hunt can kick straight, or this might have been it for me.

Well, not really, I’ve sunk too much into this to pull out now. Yes, I know it’s the sunk cost fallacy. That’s Melbourne’s business model.

The Melbourne Football Club undermines every economist who has ever advocated Rational choice theory as a way of modelling society.

As for Carlton, Teague certainly has them fighting. The Blues could certainly do worse for a coach and have, frequently.

Well thanks for that, I looked up my overall place and I am 189,534 so I am in front of the trailing 78,000!!!!

Does that make me feel better, I suppose it could serve some small gratification, a bit like Donald Trump being offered Ivanka’s hand as they were doing the walk on the 4th July!!!

My only worry about attempting to break the record for the lowest score for the year with the Thiamob is that as sure as I start trying to pick losers I will actually be picking winners which is probably the system I should have been using all along!!!!

I'm very UNASHAMED of how I like my footy, Alexis   Can't remember when I saw the last decent hip and shoulder that rattled a few bones......coz  all the players are sheet scared that the bump might go high and then get rubbed out for a game or two.

If wasting most of the game by kicking back and forward around witches hats in the back half is called progress, then I am a T-rex and refuse to evolve.

And wots this Gold FM thingy?   My little transistor radio dial used to move between 3XY for me head banging music and 3DB for me sports.   Both AM stations and both extinct for about three decades now.

Teddy Whitten Snr. would be rolling in his grave the way AFL is heading.

Horse Longmire rejects all advances from the shinboners and signs on the dotted line for 3 more years at the Swans.....AFL coach's are not the most smartest of people except for Chooks mate Ross the boss Lyon....if the lad had of left the Swans end of this season he could have prolonged his career a further 10 years....its unlikley he WILL be at the Swans in 10 ys.....TIME.

Ross if there are any takers WILL run and quickly.....another 10 ys on easy street....Hello Blues....

But wait.....this week...Boomer Thomson was convited of drug possession though Vic police may appeal they want him on trafficking .....no longer jail bound got off on a suspended sentence can now rock up for every training session over near the new super dubber railway station....no names here....all hush hush.....but they did tear down the fences of Arden st a while ago now...could be the boy in the bubble during training...Mark needs a hobby and hey the guy is highly credential, not your typical skinny ice addict looking chubby and worn out....head stuck on his shoulders....Tigers helped out  bad boy Cousins and he did walk a straight line for 2 years while in Melbourne.....precedent set....Mark to coach again....

Expect if not this year certainly next...Kennet to knife Alister.....ho yes....if you lived in Victoria during his premier ship top of Spring street the man is known for a scorched earth policy was worse than a nuclear holocaust....made Hitler look like a school boy, mate at that time Jeff was the most hated person in the southern hemisphere....If not the world......Bin Ladern has nothing on Jeff.....dispised yet won re election a few times...how god forbid he did that only the almighty knows....Jeff has the big grinding wheel spinning ferocialy sharpening the hatchet....
