The magnitude 6.1 earthquake struck northwest of the capital on Monday, heavily damaging an airport and sending terrified locals fleeing swaying high-rises. The worst of the damage was in the province of Pampanga, which was the site of most of the 11 fatalities, disaster officials said. https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2019/04/northern-philippines-jolted-magnitude-61-earthquake-190423010018244.html
Denim Posted April 23, 2019 Author Posted April 23, 2019 Got a friend there who sent a message saying it was pretty scary. At first he thought he was just badly hungover but soon realised it was something bigger.
ExpatPH Posted April 23, 2019 Posted April 23, 2019 Was a good shake for 20 seconds. People ran to exit ways and out of buildings as fast they could, myself included. Learned from the big earthquake 7,2 in 2013
metisdead Posted April 23, 2019 Posted April 23, 2019 SEE IT: Water from rooftop pool falls 600 feet down Manila penthouse during Philippines earthquake Water from a rooftop pool was seen cascading 600 feet down a Manila skyscraper on Monday as a powerful earthquake ripped through the northern Philippines, damaging multiple buildings and causing at least 11 deaths. The dramatic footage captured the moment when water from an 82-foot-long lap pool and a children’s pool poured down the side of the Anchor Skysuites as the building swayed in the 6.1 earthquake. The video was shared online by The Manila Bulletin and credited to Michael Rivo. madmen Posted May 22, 2019 Posted May 22, 2019 Typhoons , earthquakes, violence and farang actually go there to live? How desperate would you have to be !
ExpatPH Posted May 23, 2019 Posted May 23, 2019 Nothing to do with desperate. Expats live here because we want peace of mind, no stress with immigration. A big advantage over Los. We also want to be around people who actually speak english. Reading Thai news, isnt fun these days, whats next visa restriction they will come up with? Philippines advantages: No 800k. No tm 30. No tm 28. No minimum in bank acc. No new visa changes semi yearly. No residence certificate required to buy a vehicle. No embassy pension letter needed. No denied at airport. No dual pricing. No medical insurance required. I would say expats in Philippines are more clear sighted, than the very few who still (in these days) defend Los. 1
