Pattaya grave cleaners dig up 100,000 baht

PATTAYA:--Sawang Boriboon members and volunteers cleaning graves and cremating those with no family members exhumed an unexpected surprise from one burial plot: 100,000 baht cash.

The money – 98,000 in brand-new banknotes and 2,000 baht in rumpled bills – was discovered in the grave of Poon Korn, who died at age 60 in January 2017. The grave had been cemented over but opened to clean the bones and prepare the remains for cremation.

Sawang Boriboon rescue chief Prasit Thongtidcharoen said the money will be used for merit-making to dedicate to the deceased and for hosting the day’s chanting for blessings of dead people and dedication to Poon.

100,000 Baht for one day's chanting, plus an awful lot of 'merit-making' for one dead guy.

He should arrive in the after-life faster than you can say gullible.

Thar's gold in them thar hills monks.

"afterlife"">> well if there was such a thing hopefully quicker than  2 year and 4 month travel since he buried in January 2017. Not even Tigerair that slow at destination arrivals ????

That is a whole load of chanting and making merits.. And when they do the merits things they could take a leaf out of them Christians book who offer bread and give out some Merit mints .. I'm sure 100k would buy a truck load ..

Sounds like grave robbing to me.

should have put the money in the BBQ with the bones.

would that have not been the correct thing to do.

TIT.

Nah, I'd expect the temple to remove the cash and replace it with a cheque, then it's not theft.

Luckee'ness doesn't come much better than that does it .. 98k in new notes .. Imagine if it had been all in coins .. And just a thought have they checked if the notes described as brand new were printed after deceased took up residence early '17 ..

Bet they are lining up at the temple to claim their long lost deceased family member ...and his inheritance.

The usual "let's have a laugh and knock Thais" posts. The fact is that if people were as venal as many suggest, then the money would not have come to light but simply been pocketed.

True...

A large % of Thais are honorable citizens, and do you think the ones that give Thailand such a bad name would do voluntary work...

Considering most funeral/ cremations are 45,000 baht upwards, yes. Nothing as sure as death and taxes but maybe this guy avoided one of them!
