I dont mind the hospitals too much as at least you can negotiate with them, unlike the parks and other attractions. The private hospitals I use dont seem to charge me extra for not being Thai, or if they do they do it so well that I dont notice.

I much rather pay for a floating market ticket price of 500 bht instead of the Thai local ticket price of 50 bht.

In comparison with paying 100,000 bht hospital bill for a broken leg while locals pay 12,000..

As noted in the hundreds of other “Dual Pricing” threads, it is established that dual pricing does occur in Thailand, as it does in many countries. I personally do not believe whining about it on TVF will change this practice in the near future.

Hmmmm....

The pricing in English appears to be for admission to the Teddybearmuseum that includes a special dance performance at 2:00, 3:00 and 4:00 pm on Saturday & Sunday in the Fairytale Zone, while the pricing in Thai appears to be the standard admission price which does not include the special dance performance. OP may be comparing apples and oranges.

That's for the adult fathers I presume?

In that case it sounds like good bang for the buck.

Do you believe that your post will change what a ThaiVisa members discuss in the near future?

Why feel compelled to post your comments then? You preferred to express an opinion on a forum promoting discussion... right?

Thats why there will always be similar topics every few months...

Yes, nong nooch was a good visit

I though nong nooch was that famous Thai porno actress who married the old white millionaire.

Oh shoot I know that one... wasn’t it ‘Nong Nat’ (Natt Chanapa) who decided poor Harold didn’t quite cut the mustard !

Is she classed as a bar girl? Does she count in the 50% of guys would date a bar girl thread?

If you don't like it, don't go.   Most Thai 'attractions' are not even worth the Thai price. let alone anything more.

BUT you don't whether you like it or not until you have been!

This would stop overnight if the western governments gave travelling Thai elites a dose of their own medicine but anyone with half a brain should realize by now that their governments don't represent their interests anymore.

I have lived in some tourist areas back in australia and local attractions were free for locals and tourists paid, locals discounts at resturants etc.

I was back in Australia last year and took my wife to steve irwin australia zoo, i flashed my local address license and got the local discount, thai wife paid full price.

Seems no different to me.

It’s still wrong...

In your example they knew you were a resident but thought your Wife lived elsewhere ????

There are all sorts of examples of dual pricing in western countries. I wont bore you listing them off.

Let us just say for fun though that the above is wrong. No dual pricing in western countries, and Thailand is supposedly the bad guy here.

Well, even then, there are great arguments to be made that never seem to get brought up around these parts, like Thais have paid more Thai taxes that a tourist or even average expat. That should essentially "solve" the govt parks etc entrance fees... An 80 year old Thai has paid Thai taxes for 80 years. A 20 year old Thai will pay for the next 60 and past 20.

I think a better argument can be made against dual pricing in the instance here, where what looks like a private company is charging more. But even then, that is a Thai company. Who on earth are we to say anything about that? If it is illegal, report it I suppose. Not worth the time for me. Real point is though, your gripe would be with individual businesses and business owners, not Thailand.

Either way, I do not think dual pricing "reactionaries", if i used that term properly, are on solid ground in this "debate". It simply should not be as huge of an outrage as many posit it to be.

Yeah sure... you got the pensioner discount and not double pricing tourist price

https://onlinesales.centaman.net/AustraliaZoo/BuyTickets/tabid/56/Default.aspx

It was a locals discount, not advertised on their website, I'm not old enough to be a pensioner.

I cant see the difference. if the Thai wife was able to show an ID that showed a local address she would have got the local discount. The same as the pink ID card gets you the thai local price most of the time.

I can give other examples, Something to do with a trip to frazer island, I got a discount and wife paid full, I lived at Bondi Beach for a while, as a resident I could park at the beach car park for free, tourists paid to park there.  Noosa Heads, several restaurants did a locals discount, one even did a dine for free if you bring in 5 tourists.

That was a euphemistic (polite) way of me telling you to have some actual balls. If you want to state something, usually it is best if you actually..... state it.

i don't see the problem.  odds are the farang does have more disposable income.  don't you want to help Thailand???  Don't you feel bad they are poor?  Don't you appreciate the capitalism?  Don't you feel you were born into a better place with more options and more money?

200 baht.....  i've given away thousands for nothing in return.   maybe 15,000.   is it a lot?  no.  ok, there you go.

I've paid for two Thai girls entire high school educations, and university, plus helped many other female students with their university fees. I consider myself a philanthropist.

But help the Junta government ....... no way!

Most of the thai tax base is the VAT. Every thai pays vat one way or another.

It is difficult to know where to start. A Thai baby needs a sock on his foot, or a diaper, I suppose you know items are taxed in Thailand. This is a being who did not exist previously, so the tax is now present where it was not before.

Further, Thailand I am assuming is essentially built on rice exports. Thais work in rice fields. Thais have built the country's wealth on their backs.

What were you doing when you were 12 years old? I only have fo assume it was probably not building Thailand on your back.

Hey, I am not even against y'all like you may think. I feel the op titled the thread very appropriately. Business owners who charge more for foreigners are most probably very jerk-like. No need to buy items from jerks. I just happen to think that is about the extent of the dual pricing problem in Thailand.
