BANGKOK, 16 May 2019 (NNT) - On Wednesday (May 15), all 498 members of parliament arrived at the Election Commission (EC) headquarters to receive an MP endorsement letter. Meanwhile, the Thai Forest Conservation Party, which has two seats in parliament, has decided to join a political alliance led by the Palang Pracharath Party in a bid to form a coalition government.

The Thai Forest Conservation Party leader, Damrong Phidej, announced that the Thai Forest Conservation Party will join forces with the Palang Pracharath-led alliance, after his party has been asked to work in the area of natural resources and environment. Mr. Damrong said the Thai Forest Conservation Party has agreed to work with the Palang Pracharath Party, as the request is in line with his party’s policy of addressing environmental issues.

Following the Thai Forest Conservation Party’s announcement, the Palang Pracharath-led alliance now has 137 seats to support Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha as the next prime minister.

Gen. Prayut said that if he has been voted as prime minister, he will carry out his duties and improve all areas. He said his first task would be maintaining order in parliament and ensuring that all legislators respect one another and work for the country.

He has been there 5 years already, and I don't see he has improved much in that time.

I can't see being 'voted' in by his cronies, making any difference than being at the helm after an illegal military coup.

I do find this election confusing. What are the numbers, allocated seats. Anyone help. I have made this graphic of the seats won. So which coalition has which seats, etc?

Now, should we take that as a not particularly subtle hint to all/any opposition parties to toe the government line, or else/

They are not to be told what to do and they are meant to respect wishes of those who voted for them.  What an numpty.

Not something to look forward to.  Hope the anti junta parties can block this twit.

Not surprised at all with this news. Damrong has always praised the junta government particularly Prawit. He defended Prawit’s watchgate by suggesting that was a smear campaign to (wait for it.,) to destroy his character. He is just another junta lackey and doing this for his own self ‘monetary’ reason.

How did they get their seats?

How else can a party that won only less than 1% of popular votes got 2 seats. Courtesy of the crony EC ridiculous and mystifying party list formula.

The Forestry Conservation Party might consider upping their game a tad, and joining a different bunch of crooks, ones not devoted historically to illegal logging. Not that it has anything, beyond the name, to do with conservation - it's all about the munee.
