webfact
Bhumjaithai will follow if Democrats don’t join Palang Pracharat group Bhumjaithai party will not join the Palang Pracharat party in forming a government if the Democrats decide to part with the pro-Prayut party, said Bhumjaithai party leader Anuthin Charnvirakul. He reiterated that his party would only join a coalition government which enjoys a majority in the 500-member House of Representatives. He also rejected the Palang Pracharat party’s suggestion that its potential coalition partners vote for Prayuth as prime minister before discussing the sharing of cabinet portfolios. Popular Post Thailand
And the dems know it's the end of them down the road if they go with the military. But they will, not got the balls to do otherwise. 6

cornishcarlos
I'm not very good at all this politics game playing but.... What would happen if the Bhumjaithai formed their own coalition with the Dems ?? Wouldn't that scupper the whole parliament ?? It would then be a 3 way deadlock ????

Popular Post Bob12345
There will either be a government formed with pro-junta parties having a majority, or another coup will take place.
Popular Post otherstuff1957
Given the number of parties in the pro-junta coalition it looks like even the smallest of parties will be able to blackmail the leader with the threat of defecting to the opposition. PPT will probably have to give away all of the more lucrative cabinet posts to keep their coalition together. Even if they can form a government in the next few weeks, this regime will be a weak, unstable kleptocracy.
Popular Post Bob12345
Maybe the best scenario for the long run is a pro-junta government which has to deal with the economic decline. Hope the hardship will wake up some people and real change can be implemented after that, taking the military out of the political mix for good.

If there is a 3 way deadlock and no one able to form coalition government then the obvious answer is to hold another election just like Israel post election impasse. However I doubt the junta has what it takes to hold another election knowing that they will be trounced as political parties smartened up.

yellowboat
The Dems, if they can ever be called that again after siding with the army a second time, risk universal back lash for not standing up imbecilic authoritarianism. Abhisit lashed out at cha cha a few time, too few, but a few times. As dumb as he is, he and his party must realize they have a chance at 1932 all over again if they think of the people of Thailand. A military "strong man" who cannot take the heat of criticism, and is not use to arguing should never run a country.
Lemonltr
I had hoped that the exit of Newin Chitchob might herald a more ethical Phumjaithai. What a forlorn hope!

I think you might be right, the next goverment will have a lot of economic problems and will have to take measures. That wont make them popular. So maybe a pro junta government is good. For sure that next election they will crumble.

It will be interesting (or laughable) to see how the Dems try to present themselves to voters the next time there is a significant election.
