The Tourist Police Bureau reported that a Thai woman who acted as a thieving rental agent has been arrested in Bangkok.

Phawinee "Toei" Khrainunsing, 31, would advertise her services online and meet foreigners and Thais who wanted to rent properties.

After she took advance rent and deposits she removed her ads and disappeared with the money.

She also ripped off foreigners by taking fines after they did not report their whereabouts to immigration.

She was arrested on a warrant in a joint operation by tech police, the TPB and Phrakhanong police.

She has been charged with fraud using a false identity.

The TPB said that she had defrauded many foreigners and many Thais and losses were at least 2.5 million baht.

The story was accompanied by a man exchanging a brown envelope with a senior TPB official though it was not explained what was transpiring.

Strange. Did people fork out money on-line for a property they hadn't inspected or checked out? Saw nice photos and agreed to rent?

Don't quite get this as the mention of fines for not reporting makes it sound like long term stayers.

I am confused. She met with foreigners and took deposit for properties without even showing it?

Or she she was really an agent who just frauded both renters and landlords?

now how on earth she collected fines for not reporting ? And why would anyone pay her?

Important banknotes documents that had enabled the police to complete their investigation swiftly and led to the suspect's prompt arrest.

Horrible woman, they all seem to think we are easy pickings for ripping us off. Deposits are also hard work to get back after rental.

It would appear some are easy pickings.

I've been offered land ( that expats can buy, honest ) !!! and the deal was to pay 250,000 deposit and 'he' would get me the land papers in two weeks. When I said, get the land papers first, let my wife check them out first 'he' got all bad tempered and red faced, stormed off and disappeared.

????????????????????

I've got a nice bridge in London for sale if anyone is interested.

Why would anyone want to date or marry a prostitute?

Thailand attracts a special type of person.

It's an apology to society for damaging the reputation of this pristine nation!

Remember a story of a locksmith who had a call from an agent, lost the keys to a client's property, after getting him in and changing the locks, and agreeing to let the agent pay by invoice.

Turns out he and a lot of people who viewed and put down a deposit to rent the property had been conned.

Some are quite brazen.

German friend got a contract at home for two years and decided to sell the condo. After two years got a buyer and came back to finalise everything. Got the money etc and all was fine.

Found out a few weeks later that the condo admin had been renting out the condo regularly during the two years.

When they were confronted with the facts their answer was a direct 'sue us, and see how long it takes'.

Common here, I know of one Thai lady in Bang Saray has been ripping people off for years. Lots of foreigners think they own houses through companies she has help set up but own bugger all...her boyfriend included with his/HER 12 million baht house....

Believe me, the idiots of both tenants and vendors...a smiling Thai lady in a dress thats speak good English.....can write her own pay cheque, nobody has anywhere to go for recourse of lost deposits or rent...

Again, quite common....its a shame we cant name and shame about blatant theft by agents or Juristic Offices.
