Popular Post JWRC
I went in to immigration this week for an extension to my retirement visa. I had been in the week before to check on what was needed and was quietly confident I had everything on the list they gave me, including the medical certificate. That very morning I had gone to the bank and got the required letter guaranteeing the funds. On presenting this letter and a copy of every page of my bank book, they said this wasn't good enough as my last deposit had been the day before and even though the letter was dated same day I had to go back to the bank, deposit 100 baht and get a deposit slip and a copy of the updated page in the bankbook. (This has only been requested once before and that was about 5 years ago). Then they were talking to my other half who is Thai and they suddenly realised we weren't married, he had supplied the copy of house book and also his ID card, we had the correct documents (same as provided by me only 3 weeks before on my 90 days reporting pertaining to where I lived. We have lived in the same house for well over 15 years, but we are told that is not acceptable, I must have a rental agreement with him. I was simply completely and utterly flummoxed by this, but after much discussion we had to go to the stationers and buy a rental agreement form, back to the office, duly filled in the form and tried to present it, the rental amount shown on the document is Zero, however we then were told to make a 3rd trip back into town, this time to pay tax on the rental agreement. only 30 baht, the money is not the issue. I do not and have never rented the home from my partner and I cannot understand why it was required that I make a false document. Thank god my partner had decided to come with me because I would probably have lost it and ended up in trouble. What should have taken 30 minutes turned into 4 hours 5 3
Popular Post RJRS1301
Oh dear, sounds like that dreaded "discretion" thing at each office or officer. There should be one rule covering all offices/officers, way too much confusion caused by "discretion"

Popular Post Saltire
I report to the same office and have been asked for everything you outline for the last 2 annual renewals. My first application I got a check list from them with those additional requirements added in writing. Took me 20 minutes to renew last November. I too got the generic home rental form at the stationers, I just fill in a new one every year. and the copy shop along from the IO also supplies the tax stamps as well as a photo-reduced to A4 copy. The bank letter on the same day has also not changed for me in 2 years. In general I find Kanchanaburi a good office to deal with. They religiously, within a few days, approve my online 90 day report, and send a confirmation email saying it has been approved. For the newly enforced TM30 they currently only require a new one on return from abroad, not from a trip to another province. I think we are lucky I'd hate to have to deal with CW based on reports here and other places. 5
elviajero
Insisting on a rental agreement has been known at other offices too.
myjawe
Good idea to extend ! It's so much easier than crossing the border to Myanmar for 10 minutes every 3 months... Border that is at 1 hour drive from Kanchanaburi !
DPKANKAN
Unusual for Kan irritation to be like this. In March I was in and out in 30 minutes. Only had to wait for the boss to sign it off!! Is it new staff or the same ones?!?!
Popular Post william76
Better to live and go where you are treated best. Why accepting such humiliation? Consider all the frustration, the sleepless night before going to the butchery, all the negative feelings... Will never happen to me. Get ready and vote with your feet. 6
Tagged
Can you please post an updated list what we need for retirement visa not married? I have a yellow housebook now, at my gf parents house, does that mean, I need an rental contract with them, or will it be easier if I just present the rental contract we have in Hua Hin? Has never happened to me either, never had a problem renewing my retirement extension, ninety day reporting, TM 30 after returning from overseas or problems with IO’s at the airport. Strange that some people have all these problems non of my farang friends seem to have problems either. 1

Tanoshi
Thai law doesn't recognise same sex marriages, civil unions, or domestic partnerships, so from their point of view you are a tenant or occupier. Copies of the house owners Tabien Baan + ID card + rental agreement is quite common as proof of domicile. Updated bank book and letter dated the same day as the application is also a common requirement. Put it down to experience, next year you'll be better prepared.
dcnx
When you have to file false documents in order to stay, the system is broken. This is why it’s easier to use agents or whatever else you have to do in order to short cut Somchai with a stamp.

In the process of selling off assets then we’re out. I’m not a dancing monkey or a prisoner on parole and will no longer live and contribute to a country where I’m treated as such. Not to mention, the rules change too much and it’s a terrible place to build a future if you’re living on quicksand. For several months of the year the air is some of the most polluted in the world. No thanks. My health is more important than that and I foolishly kept waiting for them to fix that, but it’s only getting worse. My real hope was that Thailand would evolve but that was my mistake for assuming they were capable of pulling their knuckles up off the ground. They are not. They are actually moving backwards in many areas and that’s just not something I want to be a part of or bet on for my future.
Thailand J
i am dealing with Pattaya immigration, so far no complains after 8 or 9 extensions. You were dealing with a small town abusive sicko IO who can't handle power. What can you do...
connda
So. For anyone who is considering moving to Thailand to retire, or perhaps if you meet a wonderful lady who you find that you may want be involved with or even marry - Warning right now - Thailand does not want you and they will toss roadblock after roadblock in your way. They don't respect you, they only wish for you to dump your money here - then get the hell out. Some may disagree, but open your eyes and read the tomes of forum submissions that basically say again, and again - you are not trusted, you are a national security threat, and even if you support a Thai family, it does not mean anything. Rethink your plans and pick a different country. If you are already here - make a Plan B and be prepared to execute it. 2

Saltire
This is the list I used for my original Non Imm O visa based on retirement and subsequent extensions over 2 years ago. The last items were hand written by the IO at the time. I will be checking with them before my next extension in November for any changes. I apply 30 days in advance to avoid surprises. Sorry but the original is also poor quality. Obviously the banked money has since changed but so far I am not affected, I just leave the 800k alone. graemeaylward
I have had retirement extensions on a non immigrant O visa (retirement) for the last 6 years and have never been asked for a medical certificate. Is this a new requirement or just one not used by my IO?Sent from my iPad using Thaivisa Connect
