psychiatrist/psychologist for young adult.

Featured Replies

Looking for recommendations for psychiatrist/psychologist for a young adult/teenager (female).

I am in Pattaya, but probably the best would be in Bangkok, so Sheryl if you have knowledge, or anyone that has experience I would be most appreciative.

Thank you.

Psychiatrists and psycholigists do quite different things. Please give some indication of the problem and also the young woman's nationality.

She is Thai/Australian mix. I would think closest would be Anxiety disorder. Worries about school related issues..exams, daily work, what people think if cant do it correctly. Sleep fine, but not the best eater.

I did look up the differences, and from my research believe both can be therapists, but only psychiatrists can prescribe medicine if necessary.

It may be just part of growing up...  I wouldn't wish adolescence on anyone.    It is tough.   Has she got a peer group that she is close with?    Sometimes being alone,  or feeling alone can be agonizing.   Especially for a youngster,  because they do not know that it will get better,  since they have never gone through things like this before.

Medicines come with their own risks and benefits, be certain that you are in the loop with any meds she decides to pursue.  Sometimes muscling through growing pains is the best way to grow with them.

Psychiatrists here (and indeed in most countries) don't do therapy, only prescribe meds and that usually after really short consultation.

From what you describe she needs a therapist/counselor.

I suggest one of these female counselors:

Siriluck (Nok) Latsamrit, Ph.D, Saovanee (Bigg) Noppaprach, PhD or Sharda Singh, MSS, LCSW  (the first 2 are Thai, the third is American of Indian descent)

Johanna de Koning-Schaaij, M.A.  or Joy (Saranjit) Hemkaew , MA (the second is Thai)

In making the choice, ask her if she prefers a Thai or western counselor.
