June 4, 20196 yr Hi, forgive me if this has been asked before. I tried searching but most of the topics that popped up were for medical marijuana and then any searches using the word "minor" got other results... I'll cut this story a little short, but recently I had friends come and visit me in Thailand, while we were in Bangkok I had to take one of them to the hospital due to severe back pain. While at the hospital they wanted to run a CT scan but because he was under the age of 18, they couldn't without parent's consent. In America, anyone over the age of 18 can consent to medical treatment (I believe, I'm not a doctor) but here in Thailand we were informed that the age is actually 20, this caused a problem as his parents couldn't be reached for an extended amount of time. We finally got ahold of them and the rest was history. But my question is, is there an America/Thai transfer of guardianship form? Can their parents sign in America and it hold legality here in Thailand as well? Could their parents sign over temporary guardianship over to me and I be able to consent to medical treatment? Would said form offer legal protection in both Thailand & the USA? Sorry if this is the wrong area to post this, any advice would be greatly appreciated.
