Bhumjaithai MP Siripong Angsakulkiat is facing a party probe after abstaining from voting for Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha to be returned as premier.

Siripong was the only MP from the parties in the pro-junta bloc who decided not to vote.

The party leader Anutin Charnvirakul said earlier that the MP had the privilege to decide whether to vote and there would be no consequences.

However, at a party meeting on Thursday, it was agreed that a committee should investigate the case.

Siripong is due to testify next Tuesday before the committee and, if found guilty, could be expelled from the party, said Saksiam Chidchob of the party's secretariat.

The probe will be conducted at the local hospital where the doctors will discover why he has a stronger backbone and bigger balls than all the others and then explain it to the party leader!!

I keep thinking I've heard it all but this country never disappoints me. How much lower can they crawl?

Didn't you know ? They can crawl under a snakes belly wearing a top hat, that's how low they are.

Another classic example of the shambles of Thai politics !

A sad state of affairs.

People get expelled from political parties all over the world for not towing the party line. Some times they're censured, sometimes loose position or sometimes kicked out.

If you're kicked out in the UK you don't loose your seat in the House unless you resign. You can choose not to resign and stay on as an independent to the next GE. Wonder how it works here?

Not exactly correct. MPs not towing party line in debates are quite common. In Singapore, the PM asked for encourages MPs to speak their mind in the population paper debate. However if this is a whipped vote, then the MP who don't toe party line will be asked to resign. So it depends on whether the voting for the PM was a whipped vote. I would think UK will be the same.
