Party threatens to pull out of coalition over environment role

By The Nation

The Thai Forest Conservation Party on Saturday threatened to pull out and become an opposition party if the coalition leader Phalang Pracharat does not take back the Natural Resources and Environment Ministry from the Chart Pattana Party.

The party's two MPs, leader Damrong Phidej, and secretary general Santiparp Intharapat, held a press conference to announce that the party would review its decision to join the coalition.

Damrong said he was invited to join the coalition with a promise to help in the administration related to the natural resource and environment.

But after his party voted for Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha, the party said it has not been consulted how to implement its policies.

Damrong said he does not want a Cabinet seat but he wants to work in the ministry so that his party can implement its policies to protect forests.

If the Phalang Pracharat does not review its decision to give the ministry to the Chart Pattana, the Thai Forest Conservation will pull out and work as an independent opposition party, Damrong said.

Two more for the opposition, that will get them very close to a majority if they follow through with their threat.

It's not that simple at all. The guy has been employed as adviser and steering committee member by the Junta and, if you read well, supports the PPRP. It is very unlikely that he will ever vote against the military, except maybe if there is a disagreement on a bill about environmental policy.

More likely some dirt on them will appear and they will be disqualified

Too late. You were fooled by fake promises to vote Prayuth back in and more than likely you will be fooled again in future

You weren't the first and won't be the last

Its difficult to see the "wood from the trees" in what is now becoming a political farce with the Forest party threatening to pull out.

Haha. And the Forest party pissed that their share of trough snuffling is jeopardized by some grunter that is bigger...

The vote is in, they can do what they want now. Those pre vote promises aren't worth the paper they're written on.

I'm sure there will be more of this kind of thing.

Sadly you are correct, but with more defections cha cha has to sit on his hands or resort to threats.  Doubt there is a no confidence mechanism.  We can just hope that the spot light is put on the cockroaches who fancy military dress.

If not them it will be another party. Too many conflicting promises have been made to be able to honor all of them. This is going to be a bumpy political road and I'm not so sure Prayut is politically adept enough to keep everyone going in the same direction. He is more accustom to stopping his feet, making threats, and bullying the opposition into compliance.
