Senders of parcels warned not to post 7 prohibited items or face legal action

Members of the public using postal services are warned not to mail seven prohibited items or face legal action. They are also advised not to lend their ID cards to strangers for use in the mailing of their packages.

The renewed warning was issued by state-run Thailand Post Company after police recently found that drug traffickers are increasingly resorting to postal services to send narcotics to their customers, after several major drug shipments, being transported in vehicles, were intercepted by police.

Mrs. Samorn Therdthampiboon, managing director of state-run Thailand Post, said yesterday the company’s post offices have intensified the screening of parcels to prevent unscrupulous senders from mailing prohibited items.

The seven types of item prohibited from being sent by mail are:

  • Live animals
  • Narcotics
  • Pornographic material
  • Explosives or flammable substances
  • Unsheathed knives or other sharpened objects
  • Banknotes
  • Fake products which infringe intellectual property rights

You're welcome.

I don’t know if this applies everywhere but I tried posting a computer motherboard to Australia for repair and Thai Post said no computers. I tried to explain what it was and even undid the package but they refused to accept it, has anyone else come across this.

I recently ordered a can of Zippo lighter fluid from Lazada. It was shipped via Thai Post.  I can assure you it is very flammable and works just fine in my Zippo lighter.

I note "banknotes" so is it illegal to send a small monetary gift in a birthday card by EMS??

FedEx has been very unreliable delivering my live animals, narcotics, and explosives. This is really an inconvenience.

Dunno, never been that hungry....

I would not want to eat my own either.

I recently sent 3 Hornby model trains to the UK for repair, I failed to put the senders address on the back of the parcel, hence they sat on a PO shelve for 5 weeks, until I made enquires, They said it contained batteries, then having shown them the contents, they re-sent them, I'm pleased  to say they are now safely in England.

I am wondering if the banknotes prohibition applies to all currencies, or only Thai baht.

Leading candidate for gross post on this thread.

In case you do not understand I was referring to a porno movie of the 1990's where the hero was going to make his fortune in making edible lingerie but ended up eating his prototype. Some of us have sick memories.

So do not include five 1,000 baht notes with that packaged graduation or wedding gift. I guess 500 10-baht coins is the way to go.

Which just goes to prove that no matter who you are or where you are, the trains never run on time.

Haven't seen it. Can I enter the competition by asking if you use a bum washer?

Might as well make it illegal as 90% of them wouldn't make it to destination intact due to the light fingers in the postal service. Oddly, seems fine from that list then to send guns through the post with no ammo.

My understanding is that components that may include batteries cannot be sent by mail, certainly not air mail. The postal office staff have seen computers or parts thereof accepted at the postal station later to be rejected at screening at the airports. The items are then returned to the local postal station of origin, and the sending fees are not reimbursed, creating unwanted complaints from customers.

The problem is related to the quick screening at the airports, where staff very quickly determine if items are ok or not for shipment. So very quickly, computer, computer parts, a mobile, maybe a battery, small or large, 'reject'. Even a 'maybe', will do it...

I tried to send a check with documents that were my taxes, in order to pay my yearly taxes, to the US government one year when I was a new expat in Thailand, and the hand written American check was rejected ....being classified as money.  That was by private air carriers.
