Qualifications of would-be ministers being examined

BANGKOK, (NNT) - The qualifications of candidates for ministerial positions are now being thoroughly examined.

The Deputy Prime Minister, Prof. Dr. Wissanu Krea-ngam, said today that forms have been delivered to the would-be ministers so that they can fill out their details. He said their qualifications will be thoroughly checked by the Cabinet Secretariat, after many complaints on this issue were lodged. The Deputy Prime Minister said the candidates have yet to send back the forms.

The media-shareholding row has now also reached the Senate after Pheu Thai’s legal expert Ruangkrai Leekitwattana on Monday petitioned the Election Commission (EC) to probe 21 senators’ shareholdings.

After a former member of the dissolved Thai Raksa Chart Party, Ruangkrai Leekitwattana, asked the Consitutional Court to look into 21 senators’ qualifications in connection with media-shareholding rules, Prof. Dr. Wissanu said the inspection process would be conducted in the same manner as in the cases of members of parliament, and it is up to the court to rule whether the status of these senators would be revoked. He said there are some senators who hold stocks in media firms but it shouldn’t pose any problem since the Constitutional Court has not made a ruling on the issue. He said the parliament will not be disrupted even if some legislators have to step down.

The 21 senators in question include Wanchai Sornsiri, Rawee Rungruang, Adm. Thanit Kittiampon, Zakee Pitakkumpol, and Kobkul Abhakara Na Ayudhaya. The petition submitted by Mr. Ruangkrai asks the Election Commission (EC) to probe the 21 senators’ shareholdings and seek a ruling from the Constitutional Court. The petition also asks the authorities to look into the entire Senate selection process, including the senators’ reserve list, as well as the status of prominent figures, such as former National Legislative Assembly president Pornpetch Wichitcholchai, Gen. Lertrat Rattanawanit, and Pol. Gen. Chakthip Chaijinda.

Wouldn't this check be done before people applied for the election position?

I thought so too. Or is that apparently only when standing as an MP?

Do ministers need a school leavers certificate as well?

A friend of mine saw the list of 10 qualifications:

1/ loyalty to Uncle Tuu

2/ when Uncle is absent loyalty to Uncle 'many watches'

3/ attack Thanathorn at every opportunity as he's a whipper-snapper

4/ praise the EC - wonderful job 'interpreting' results

5/ all hail the constitutional court - they are one of 'us'

6/ praise be to Democrats and Bhumjaithai - they tricked their voters into thinking they would not join 'us'

7/ thank Uncle Tuu for selecting the 'correct' Senators

8/ Sing Uncle Tuu's songs on Fridays

9/ remove any monuments or references to 1932 - history is such a 'nuisance'

10/ don't forget 'we were born to rule' - whether its 75,000 votes or 1,800 votes we will get YOU a seat!

Not when they suffer from "Do you know who I am" syndrome!
