Trash bins now, benches later for Chak Nok Park

PATTAYA:--Nongprue will immediately place trash cans around the subdistrict’s new Chak Nok Reservoir Park, but benches and weed barriers will have to wait, Mayor Mai Chaiyanit said.

Users of the recently opened 59-million-baht park complained that Nongprue spent the money, but didn’t finish the job, leaving park visitors no place to sit along the lake and no place to dump their trash. Even worse, the lake was already polluted with weeds.

Mai said July 6 that Environment Department staffers will place trash bins around the park in “a few days”. However, the benches will not come until next fiscal year as the subdistrict is out of money.

In addition to funds for seats, Nongprue also must request additional money for buoys and barriers to keep weeds from overwhelming the reservoir’s edge.

For now, community cleanups will have to do, Mai said. The first one will take place July 26.

Left without a leg to stand on, or rather a seat to sit on. I wonder where all the money has gone?

'barriers to keep weeds from overwhelming the reservoir’s edge'. Not sure how that might work - will they fill the barriers with paraquat?

I see the idea of allocating money for ongoing maintenance didn't take off then.

Put as many litter bins as you like, Thais will not use them.

No, that's wrong. They will use them, fill them, but one is made to empty and clean them.
