Popular Post Rimmer
7 months of roadwork begins on Beach Road PATTAYA:--Roadwork to improve drainage on Beach Road has begun, resulting in heavy traffic congestion. Lane closures on the city’s main north-south artery began July 24 with crews beginning the process of laying new drainage pipes and burying utility lines. L.B. Engineering Co. is spearheading the 95-million-baht project than officially began June 19 and is expected to run through February next year. The project will lay half-meter-wide drainage pipes, cesspools, culverts, drain covers and related work over the entire 2.9 kilometers of Beach Road. Work began at the south end of Beach Road at the entrance of Walking Street with a lane closed as digging got underway. -- PATTAYA MAIL 2019-07-26— 1

Popular Post Golden Triangle
I don't want to be seen as a naysayer, merchant of doom and gloom and quite frankly sceptical of the last 15 years (that I know of) improvements to Beach Road, but does anyone want a bet that whatever they are doing will have absolutely zero effect on the flooding problem of beach road and the beach. Just another 95 Million Baht to be shared with the lucky few, the first decent rainstorm after completion will have the usual result. Other opinions are available............. ???? 20 1

Popular Post mok199
That exact lane they are removing is the lane they added 7 years ago,Pattaya had a prefect opportunity to add bigger drainage pipes, yet they used the same old pipes. Beach rd was widened and that same year the Chinese invaded and Tour buses increased from 50-60/day to over 600/day....it was IMHO the death blow ,that and the sand bag beach rejuvenation ...Now Pattaya is nothing more than a cash cow, it barley resembles a beach resort... Absolutely 100% correct, who ever is the clown who decided to put in half meter pipes should be sacked on the spot. Anyone with half a brain knows pipes at least 3/4 times that size are needed, yet they will spend millions on a useless scheme, and probably siphon off a large amount.

They probably started out with a spec of 2 to 3 metres pipes but by the time the local officials creamed the funds and the contractor upped his profit margin they could only afford 0.5 metre pipes. 8
a977
Why are they starting it in July with only 5 months to hi season, why didn't they start it in February at the end of the last hi season, that way they would have plenty of time before the so called millionaires arrive. Not very smart thinking Pattaya.

Not very smart thinking Pattaya. Well the alternative would have been May. There have been a few Beach Rd events, like the music festival since May. Fireworks competition was May and food festival just before that. Doesn't matter really, won't be finished on time. Police check on Suk 42 (boxing stadium) as I cut through yesterday to Sukhumvit from Arunothai, trying to avoid the Klang roadworks. (Fortunately a no helmet check and waved through). Amazing they choose the routes one uses to avoid the road works. Tai has always been rubbish, now Klang is bad, and Nua has been awful since T21. Can't get into town lately! Now Beach Rd if you can get that far! Edited July 27, 2019 by jacko45k

Oztruckie
So these very clever engineers really have no idea the amount of water a monsoon storm drops on Pattaya on a regular basis during the wet season,500mm pipes, ridiculous, may as well install some straws from 7-11.
