Pentagon approves Stryker infantry carrier vehicles sale to Thailand

The US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) announced that the State Department has approved Thailand’s request for 60 Stryker infantry carrier vehicles.

 

The proposed sale, which was announced by the DSCA on 26 July, covers sixty Stryker Infantry Carrier Vehicles (ICV)and sixty M2 Flex .50 cal machine guns as well as spares, systems, weapons, training, and support. The estimated value is $175 million.

 

“The Stryker vehicles will increase Thailand’s capability to defend its sovereign territory against traditional and non-traditional threats by filling the capability void between light infantry soldiers and heavy mechanized units. Thailand will have no difficulty absorbing this equipment into its armed forces,” the DSCA said in its approval notification.

Meanwhile its an under statement to say that the nearest hospital to my mother in laws local village in Northern Thailand is somewhat lacking in facilities..

If they wanted to invade Cambodia in the dry season, they'd work.  Or safely transporting a high-value VIP like Yingluck. I've seen a few similar types at a US Marine Corps exhibition, and they are HUGE!  But with all the armor, the passenger area in back is tiny.  Might be OK in BKK floods of perhaps 2 meters.  A 90 million Baht SUV.

For that money and given the number of provinces, they could spend just over $2 million USD for each province (one time). I'm curious as to what that could buy in terms of a first-response type facility.

5,401,574,257.26 Thai baht,  black hole that is just so unnecessary to be spent when you add on all the infrastructure that has been ear marked to be built, common sense in reining in spending that the future generations are going to have to pay back.

at a fraction of the cost and can be flown from a safe position, being able to release grenades and high explosives, will be the norm, now we have more wastage by this government, just like the failed air ship that the military just want to brush under the carpet and hope it will fade into a lost memory.

I guess more increases on foreingers staying or visiting Thailand is to be expected.

A visa for foreigners breathing air whilst in Thailand, possibly?

 

Technically a foreigner is not allowed to wash his / her own vehicle... so by breathing , Thai  could consider the action  as voluntary and so a visa would be required, much the same as cleaning a vehicle?  More extorton... T.I.T

     You have no idea ?     I would say probably border areas.  I can imagine maybe needing a few in an area like the three southern provinces bordering on Malaysia, and possibly have a few around the Prasat Preah Vihear Temple border area with Cambodia. 

    The IAV Stryker is a family of eight-wheeled armored fighting vehicles derived from the Canadian LAV III and based on the Swiss Piranha III 8×8.

       Stryker vehicles are produced in Canada by General Dynamics Land Systems Canada for the United States Army.  Uses four wheel drive, and switch to all wheel drive... and with run-flat tires that just keep going if shot. 

  As well as a .50 Browning machine gun... it can also mount 30mm cannon or smaller if required, and it can carry up to nine soldiers with their small arms and kit.   Thank you Canada. 55555 ;)
