The sky’s the limit as TCEB works to stage international airshow

The Thailand Convention and Exhibition Bureau (TCEB) is planning to stage a Thai edition of the “International Airshow” as it continues to create business opportunities and attract the world’s most iconic events in 12 key industries under the Thailand 4.0 model.

 

The bureau recently commissioned UK-based Farnborough International to conduct a feasibility study on staging the airshow at U-Tapao airport in line with the government’s Thailand 4.0-EEC (Eastern Economic Corridor) initiative. 

 

Nichapa Yoswee, senior vice president of TCEB’s business department, said: “The study is now complete, covering global overview, regional market potential, industry feedback, competitive landscape, Thailand’s EEC development and the Thailand 4.0 initiative. It also offers recommendations for Thailand to stage the event and economic impacts.”

 

On the domestic front, TCEB held an industry hearing among stakeholders of the local aviation industry, both in the public and private sectors, to identify Thailand’s potential and strength in staging an airshow and its economic impacts.

 

Apart from the feasibility study and domestic industry hearing, TCEB also attended the 2018 Farnborough International Airshow in UK, Bahrain International Airshow and Paris Air Show in 2019 to get an overview of how to attract major airshow events to Thailand.

 

Nichapa said the action plan for the Thailand airshow enhanced TCEB’s role as co-creator under its “Thailand Redefine Your Business Events” campaign, which aims at generating business opportunities in the 12 industries under the Thailand 4.0 economic model.

 

“Aviation is one of the priority sectors behind the country’s Aerotropolis initiative and MRO [aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul] hub and it corresponds with the expansion of U-Tapao Rayong Pattaya International Airport in the EEC,” Nichapa added.

 

In 2018, Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang airports handled a total of 634,011 flights, up 5.79 per cent and a total of 103,378,371 passengers, up 7.39 per cent. The International Air Transport Association has listed Thailand as among the top 10 countries with the highest air-traffic volume in the next two decades.

If they ever do have an airshow they could theme it as vintage one looking at the old bone shakers in the pic' ..  

I just wonder how many people living in the area of the show might move away while its going on? I'm saying that purely on the reputation for safety Thailand that doesn't have.

That 'old boneshaker' is a re engined DC3, the other 'Old Boneshaker' in the picture is a Lockheed C130  and is in service all over the world by military and civilian operators
