Crime Police Raid on Drug Gang Involved in Grisly Murder and Burial
Case Picture courtesy of Khaosod Police launched a coordinated raid across two provinces early morning on 30 July, in pursuit of suspects connected to a harrowing drug-related murder. The operation follows the discovery of a man’s body buried in a wooded area behind Wat Hua Khao temple, linked to a violent drug gang with cross-border ties. The body was identified as 33-year-old Mr Taweechai, who had been shot in the head and buried in a shallow grave. The case initially led to the arrest of two 17-year-old suspects, one of whom admitted to carrying out the execution before both helped dispose of the body. Investigations soon identified 34-year-old Mr Sathaporn as the leader who allegedly ordered the killing. At 05:00, officers from Trang Provincial Police, Region 9 Police, and the Sri Trang Special Operations Unit conducted simultaneous raids on nine locations in Trang and neighbouring Phatthalung. The search resulted in the arrest of 35-year-old Mr Teerasak at a rented house in Na To Ming Subdistrict, along with four other suspects. All have been taken in for questioning. According to investigators, the origins of the crime date back to an arrangement in which Mr Taweechai and his 29-year-old partner, Ms Prakaithip, were hired by a Mr Anuchai and Mr Komjak to guard a shipment of two million methamphetamine pills in Nakhon Pathom province. The situation took a turn when a gang of armed men stole the drugs and demanded a ransom of 2 million baht. Mr Taweechai, in an effort to recover the stolen drugs, reportedly contacted Mr Anuchai and Mr Komjak to request the ransom money. He later transferred the amount, but never retrieved the methamphetamine shipment. Convinced that Mr Taweechai had orchestrated the theft, the pair lured him to Trang under the pretext of working off the debt. Upon arrival, Mr Sathaporn and Mr Teerasak picked him up and brought him to a house where they allegedly tried to extort a confession and the money. When Mr Taweechai denied stealing the funds, Mr Sathaporn reportedly arranged for the two 17 year old youths to kill him and dispose of his body. Further suspicions have also been raised regarding Ms Prakaithip, Mr Taweechai’s partner. Before his death, he had allegedly expressed doubts about her and her close friend, possibly being involved in the disappearance of the ransom money. Police investigations revealed that 1 million baht had indeed been transferred into an account linked to Ms Prakaithip, who has since fled. Meanwhile, both Mr Anuchai and Mr Komjak, have escaped across the border into a neighbouring country. Both men are known to authorities for previous drug-related offences in the southern provinces of Krabi, Trang and Phatthalung. The case remains open as police continue to track down Mr Sathaporn and the other fugitives and unravel the wider drug trafficking network believed to be behind the killing.
