What's your experience with CPAP?

Featured Replies

Hi, I am on sixth day of CPAP for sleep apnea, using a Resmed AirSense 10 machine with nasal mask. It's been really difficult adjusting. Even though my pressure setting is only 5, it's difficult to impossible falling asleep due to wheezing sound of my breathing against pressurized air (machine itself is quiet). I have to use foam ear plugs, but those are also uncomfortable and I can't hear phone alarm and any possible emergencies. Also waking up 2-3 times nightly due pressure of air and of mask, and then can't go back to sleep.

I have it on free trial from a company, will later cost around 32,000 baht. The sales rep knows little about how to fix problems with adjusting, etc.

I'm interested in other people's experience with different machines and masks, adjusting to therapy, finding good distributor, sleep doc, etc.

Thanks.

I was diagnosed with sleep hypopnea in saudi which is less severe than apnea and for which the local doc recommended a CPAP machine (Philips Respironics)...my experience was the same as yours, didn't help much, kept waking up and not getting back to sleep...then I discovered melatonin and things improved significantly, was then able to sleep 4 - 5hrs straight and felt much better rested in the morning...

I got the machine (but not the mask) on my insurance so no big loss...sometimes there are machine adjustments required that the OEM says must be done by a technician...so if no support from the vendor then there's a problem...or go back to the sleep clinic for help...
