March 19, 200718 yr Hi, Been a pretty advanced user of Outlook 2003 using all kinds of bells and whistles to sort and prioritize my task list. (and contact list. I loved outlook cause it was a "programme"....... been forced to use Lotus Notes as its now a company standard. Maybe its my incompetence in it ( yes leaving myself open ), but it seems just as difficult and slow to use as a a web based system. Further more, it seems like I have been thrown back to 1995 in terms of available features / functions. Thought...... is there any system I can use to synch outlook with. I can synch outlook with my gmail, but it does not cover "contacts" and "schedule". As my PA updates the latter 2, she needs to be able to log in and update it on the WWW, which I can hook into and get updated info. My mails I can auto forward from company server to my new ,mail address. Maybe not possible, any idea's ? (really really hating lotus )
March 19, 200718 yr I also have always wondered about Lotus Notes and the popularity in various organizations. It always seemed so backwards, in interface, technology, and options. I believe that you can use Outlook with a Notes server via MAPI, but the server has to have support for it. You can check with your admin. It probably will only allow access to certain functions, like mail and address book.
March 19, 200718 yr yeah...I've been with 2 organisations over the past 10 years that use lotus notes...slow and complicated; gimme a simple web based email anytime...ever notice how long it takes to shut down yer computer when running lotus notes?...just when yer wantin' to go home after 10 hrs ob labour... rubbish...
March 20, 200718 yr Author Well, Almost got it figured out, gonna use gmail hooked into outlook, and can keep my tasks there. Will auto forward all mails from lotus to gmail. Since gmail cant handle calendars, will do it using lightning (mozilla) Our #$@%** IT department have rocks in their head.
March 20, 200718 yr Since gmail cant handle calendars, will do it using lightning (mozilla) With your GMail account I also believe you have access to Google Calendar.

Correct, but Google calendar cannot upload to Outlook ( so i.e. my PA can update my schedule, and it uploads onto outlook when I connect to internet ( like I do with Gmail ). Nother question / option, I do have a web site abcd.com (not real name). Does have mail capabilities, but I am looking to have it act like a server for my mail and calendar. Is this possible ?
March 20, 200718 yr I'll defend some of the features - but I agree it's crap for basic email / address book. Some of the Domino features are useful for enterprises. Features like work flows, change control signoffs, document tracking.
March 20, 200718 yr Author Some of the Domino features are useful for enterprises. Features like work flows, change control signoffs, document tracking. Correct, that was their justification....... Strange way of looking at things, I might use those things once every 2 months, but my core e-mail / calendar /task list is heavily used.

Strange, I use both Outlook (2007) and Notes (6.5.5) I fail to see what is wrong with notes email and calendar functionality. I mean if you run outlook from an exchange server, or notes connected to a Domino server, the functionaliy is similar. I have to say though, that I do like Exchange 2007 webclient more then the Domino one. but the clients are more or less comparable.
