Almost denied at Don Muang airport

Almost denied at Don Muang airport.
Had Multiple Entry Tourist Visa with a total stay of 9 months. Later 2 months in the Philippines and 1 month in Bali. And got a tourist visa in Bali.
At Don Muang, Immigration Officer, after she notices my previous METV, takes me to separate room for investigation.
I showed the currencies I had with me. I had bahts, dollars, euro and a few others, more than the required 20k. When I applied for Tourist Visa in Bali, I also had to show my bank statement. Had ticket back from Surat Thani to Kuala Lumpur. She asked why not come back to my country and when I am going to come back to my country.
Also, I have a rental agreement for a house in the north of Thailand paid already for one year till October, where my ex-girlfriend is staying now for free.
I said also than I'm working online as a Software Engineer for a company in my country - I think that I am working online wasn't a problem for her.

So Immigration Officer told that I cannot stay more than 120 days in Thailand per year on a tourist visa. That it is the law. (She didn't say 180). When I asked why the consul in Bali didn't inform me about this before giving me visa - she said that there is a different law... I didn't want to argue.

She threatened to send me back to the country I arrived from.
I said again about the rental agreement which will finish soon and I need to collect some staff and maybe deposit. And that I didn't know about the 120 days rule and next time I will know, and finally she said she lets me in if I do something for her. She shows me a photo on her phone what she wants from a duty-free shop. I agreed. She gave me a passport with a letting stamp. I went to duty-free shop - I check the price and I had two choice - just go out from the airport because I already pass the immigration and I had my passport with a required stamp or buy her what she wanted. It was cheaper than I expected so I bought this, brought to the office, left that thing on the table and went out. There were another foreigner women, maybe from Canada who was waiting outside the office for her turn. She saw this. We joke about the situation. There are of course many cameras and many other lower rank immigration officers saw me bringing a transparent bag with something to the immigration office. I didn't expect that this could have happened at the International airport in front of everyone...

That is my first post on ThaiVisa. I'm not a native speaker. I'm from central Europe.
I was in Thailand before on different passport, but I think she didn't have this information in her system. But she had and comment my photos of same-day visa runs when I was on METV.
On the form, I had to fill with my details, reasons for stays, my declared funds, and contact in Thailand, was a section for Immigration officer. One of the reasons for denied to choose was taking photos at the immigration, so I didn't take any.
The free WiFi was very slow inside the office, frustrating if you want to show them additional documents to prof your story and they are loading for a long time.

Good to know. If I ever get questioned I'll ask what the IO wants from the duty free shop. :)

But again a 'she'. Avoid female IO's imo.

This is the second post in 2 days where a person was "almost denied" but bribed the IO to get in. In the last 6 months I read every "almost/denied entry" post and have never heard 1 poster mention any bribes. New trend or something else happening here?

You are right how can this be?  Thailand taking bribes?  Impossible I say...

Oh man. Do i bother finding holes?

You mentioning 180 days, indicates that you have read (or are aware), of what has been posted over the last months on this forum, of IO's quoting the imaginary 180 day rule.

So you are not a newbie that just popped up, you have been reading / doing extensive research / have knowledge of what is being posted in past threads.

So you have been watching it for long now, but only joined today because you felt compelled to share your experience.

If I told you the story is too comprehensive to be believable, would that make any sense? Overkill in other words, pedantic and methodical.

Thank you and good luck.

What a surprise, Another falang who thinks he can live in Thailand with tourist visas and questioned why he is being detained???. When will these guys ever learn. Thai visa should add sub forum just for people being denied/almost denied at the airport as this is a daily occurrence these days.

I believe him ... Reality is often stranger than fiction.

About time they get rid of these digital nomads who don't pay any tax here.

Yes they are learning that they need to bribe the IO.

I'm on my 5th METV and stay in Thailand for 8-9 months per year, I have never been denied entry, questioned or interrogated with a passport full of stamps and visas. I have listened to advice to carry 20,000 baht "just in case" and never been pulled over so far. I just find it curious that people who've stayed here for so long never heard of Thaivisa.com. Besides, when applying for a tourist visa or a visa on arrival in Bali, you never have to show any bank statements, so I'm not sure where that is coming from.

Stop trolling us dude, just like the other "denied entry post" earlier.

If this is not troll, after all that's being going on past few years and posted hundred times on TV, you still think you can live in Thailand fulltime in repeated Visitor visas. Are you retarded or genuinely an imbecile? Sheesh!

We really need to know what it was that she wanted from the duty free store.

Perhaps, if there were duty free shops at Don Muang after passing through immigration to enter Thailand, I might be willing to give this OP the benefit of the doubt. I think most reports of denied entry or almost denied entry are substantially accurate. This one is a load of old cobblers.

Removed some troll posts and the replies to them.

The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place

Its been a while since I've been to DM, but isn't there a booze shop in the baggage hall?

While many are claiming 'troll'... Given the inherent and almost audacious openness of graft in Thailand I am not finding this experience to be too far fetched.

Very serious allegations made by the OP. I'd REALLY like to know if this is for real, or not. If it is, wow!

Yes, I haven’t flown in there on an international flight for a long time, but I remember that too.  While getting your luggage there is one last chance for some kind of duty free there, mostly consisting of alcohol that I saw.  But surely they sold a few other things.  Maybe immigration can go back and get a refund for anything purchased?  End up with cash.

No matter if people have heard of TV or not, you realize a large portion of people here do not post on TV right?

The OP is saying he got a Tourist Visa from the Thai consulate in Bali, where he showed them bank statements, he is not talking about the tourist visa on arrival to get into Bali.

I guess immigration can’t hold up every single person, that would take a long time, immigration held me up when leaving and stole my wallet, I’m sure they don’t do that to every passenger every day, but maybe to one every now and then when a good opportunity arises???  They were pretty organized about how they went about it, like a pickpocket ring.

Sounds a little off to me.  But don't underestimate it because it was a female I/O.

The one I had 2 weeks ago was right uppity about a very small administrative issue with me, clearly primed and ready to chop my head off with her ninja sword if I ruffled my feathers at her.

They've been on a roll for nearly 2 years now, going toe to toe with chancers who've been running roughshod for years, and even having a go with a few major foreign embassies.   Immigration has regained the initiative and are feeling their oats.

Yes, there are Thais wo pay tax like many foreigners who work here.

Your other comment is not even worth talking about.

No worries the time that you can work here without a proper visa and work permit are ending soon.

Well they could ask for cash directly but that is a good point.

Buying duty free good for immig. officer when he/she has already passed the gate? What guarantee does officer has that the foreigner will return?

Wouldn't it be better just to slip some cash under the table?

More 'denied entry' stories please. This seems to be a daily event nowadays.
