HSBC UK confirmed this went into BBK Bank Siolm on Wednesday and now investigating why been the transfer is not  in my wifes account. If there was something wrong with the account number or swift it would be back in my bank. The Mrs said Tambon BBK bank staff don't know the transfer in in Thailand

Thailand doesn't have sort codes so how relevant is correct bank address to a transfer ?. I have my own account an BKK Bank account and I am too accurate with the address

This is for daughtersschool and must be paid next week . I don't know if this is Tambon BKK bank staff speaking the Mrs said it can take 10 to 15 days to process

I gave her the account number  the my account number I sent the transfer from so she can talk to BBK bank and find out what is going on

HSBC are no novices at this game and they seem perplexed

Any advice or experience of this would be much appreciate

HSBC can trace the payment and should be able to reclaim cash but  it will of course take time along with the Thai bank cooperation

Had this two times over the years, both with Bangkok Bank, both stemming from (very) minor errors in the details.

As for the funds being automatically returned to originating account - I was under that impression, turned out I was wrong. The receiving bank holds on to the funds for a set period of time, to allow for problems to be sorted. I think (anyway, that's what they explained) that whether the funds are returned to sender right away has something to do with the exact nature of the problem/error.

Theoretically, the Bangkok Bank (the main branch - would this be Silom?) is supposed to contact the owner of the receiving account, explain the issue and advice how to proceed. In our cases, they simply requested that the issuing bank will submit a correction. Not a big deal, but can be a bit stressful if there are time constraints.

The first time, we were still living in Bangkok, so just went there and ended up talking to a lady a bit higher up the food chain who was very helpful. The second time (last year) had to try and catch people on the phone which was annoyingly difficult. On both occasions, the "our" local branch was pretty much useless. Didn't know and didn't want to know. Couldn't even properly direct us whom to contact.

Good luck, hope it will get through.

Edit (clarifying): the funds being with Bangkok Bank was something we learned from the head office people, out local branch couldn't "see" them (or so they said).
