Just washed my passport

Recommended Posts

My Canadian passport just went through a washing machine.

All pages are there but everything is pretty washed up.

I am on a marriage non-o multiple entry visa.

Do I need to reapply for a visa or it can be "transferred"?

I will go tomorrow to Canadian embassy and reapply for a new passport. The problem is I need to leave the country before October 11th.

I am screwed. Any advice?

Do you have a visa or an extension of stay?

A visa is toast, although the consulate that issued it may be able to do a replacement (at a cost near that of a new visa).

An extension should be recoverable by the immigration office that issued it.

You can leave, but you may not be allowed to return.

Can you obtain a new Passport by 11th October?

Where's your out of Country trip to. Would you be able to get a new Non Imm O ME (assuming you get a new Passport) from a Thai Embassy/Consulate in that Country.

Alternatively you may have to cancel/re-arrange your trip.

Very unfortunate timing to wash a Passport.

You might still be able to use the visa if it is somewhat legible.

Not sure a the consulate in Savannakhet would replace it.

You mean keep the 2 passports?

It is legible, but some numbers under barcode at the bottom are not readable.

Yes

You would use both passports for entry to the country.

Those numbers are not that important. The valid until date is the most important.

I tried scanning my washed passport at the airport on the way to the embassy, mine didn't look too bad but wouldn't scan.

If it won't scan your visa is toast

Immigration does not scan visas. They only scan passports.

And it isn't better in this case to just declare the lost of the passeport?

Not a good suggestion. That would be making a false statement to the police when you do a report of its loss and about the same at your embassy.

Also some countries will make a problem it you actually do lose a passport in short period of time.

I think down the line the biggest issue is that the OP is no longer married. I don't believe for one second that Savannakhet will just reissue the damaged visa in a new passport; they will want a new application with all requisite documents. Time to think about an alternative solution if the OP wants to keep staying in Thailand.

Is this really true?

Yes it happened to me, I've got every passport I ever had except the one that went through the wash.

Read the fine print, Damaged passport will not be returned

Speaking from personal experience, I had other visa's in mine for work and they could care less

Maybe Im totally stupid, but how does one manage to wash his passport in the washing machine?

Its kind of an impoprtant document innit?

Ooops, Im sorry I just figured it out, its something to do with Canada I see. ???? ????

Goalie or defense?

You beat many in speed as me and supposing have the same question ….. washing your passport (involuntarily …?) as said your most important document so far miles / km's from home country ….

I never carry mine except for visit I.O or bank or other important visit , my passport stay safe place  home and I carry a FULL copied pages on me …., even it is not in my safe as I could be in a circumstance to send some person to my home with keys to bring it to a police station if I would have meet a incident or a difficult police man.... so I don't have to give my safe code out (bigger disaster …!!!)

The embassy is good about gettin you a temp white passport, I think I had mine in 2 days.

It's meant to get you back to Canada, not really applicable to residents or long term visa holders.

Visa replacement is up to you.

It is not shown on the page I posted a link to.

Can you post a link to where it states it will not be returned.

No link, just personal experience

At the embassy when I went to pick up my new one I asked for the damaged one as proof for some other country's visa's

Not possible they said.

You cannot have 2 Canadian passports and they couldn't stamp through the old passport to invalidate it so they kept it

I have done a little digging for more info.

On the application form it has a tick box to have your passport sent back to you.

Yes, and I've used that little tick box every time I renew my passport

Not if it's damaged I'm afraid, not hearsay, personal experience
