Why should foreigners have to pay income tax in Thailand?

Featured Replies

Morning yall,,

having a chat this morning with my buddy over breakfast and we got onto talking about working in Thailand.

He has been working here since 1992 in the oil & gas industry and is about to retire this year.

I asked him how much does he reckon he has paid in tax over those years?

'Multiple millions of baht' was is answer.

That led me to question, 'so what do you get for that money?'

Of course, the answer is nothing.

Why should foreigners pay high amounts of tax here when we cannot claim anything back through the system?

We have no rights, no benefits, no government sponsored health care, no state pension.

A foreigner who has lived and worked here all his life, paid his taxes and social security gets absolutely nothing back in return.

Where is all that money going??

Seems to me it's for the birds.

Makes my 15,000 seem like a drop in the ocean compared to multiple millions..

Do you drive on the roads and expressways?

Do you use the airports?

Have you ever caught a train or used the MRT or BTS?

Do you ever go to a hospital?

Politicians have to have nice homes, cars and watches!

I have paid hefty taxes here for almost 30 years and I don't complain about it. Two certainties in life, death and taxes!

You mean the ones you have to pay a toll for?

Sure.

Both the MRT & BTS are private, for profit enterprises.

They are not nationalized.

I think most "adults" are more than aware as to what tax is for and how it is generally applied in any country or community.

This is nothing more than another attempt at Thailand bashing.

A Troll topic.
