MG aims to strengthen its product lineup in the Thai market with the introduction of the HS SUV, once again hoping to create a stir with highly attractive pricing.

The HS is priced from Bt919,000 to Bt1.119 million. However the first 1,000 customers get a special Bt34,000 cash discount or Bt34,000 worth of accessories. With the first option, prices are lowered to Bt885,000 to Bt1.085million.

MG earlier shocked the market by launching the electric vehicle ZS EV priced at only Bt1.19 million, said a Thursday release.

The new ZS model will reach over 100 MG dealers countrywide by September 28 and delivery will start in October, according to Pongsak Lertruedeewattanavong, vice president of MG Sales (Thailand) Co Ltd.

“We made our breakthrough in the Thai SUV market with the MG GS released three years ago and followed by the MG ZS. These two models have been positively welcomed by Thai customers and have successfully established the MG brand as a key player in the B-SUV and C-SUV segments,” he said.

“The MG ZS is considered as our pinnacle product in paving a way for a new vehicle segment in Thailand based on MG’s product specialty. This new segment has seen interest from Thai car owners since then. MG is certain that the HS announced today is going to be a new milestone of both our brand and SUV market of Thailand.”

The HS is powered by a 1.5-litre E85-compatible turbocharged engine developing 162hp and 250Nm, with 0-100km/h acceleration claimed at under 10 seconds.

It comes with the latest i-SMART infotainment system with voice recognition in the Thai language, along with a package of driver assistance systems, six airbags and a 360-degree view monitor.

I would buy an all electric 4x4 with a range of about 300 km if it is reliable and priced around 1 mio . But there is no such thing in the moment ...?

I need the 4x4 because where we are living it is all sand and a conventional 2 wd gets stuck all the time ...

Show me build quality but, above all, show me reliability. The latter will take years to prove so I pass. You pays your money  and you make your choice,

I am sure it's not worse than what the Limey's put out under the same brand name - I actually reckon that Saic's cooperation building VW - and GM to a lesser degree - branded cars has taught them a thing or two about quality.

That's not the issue, the issue is perceptions, and how they shape resale price. As of now Chinese made cars are perceived (rightly or wrongly) to be inferior and as such are less desirable, Perhaps time  will change that, but for now unless there were significant savings to compensate me for taking a chance  there are other more safe  choices.

Think I am right that most of the MG stuff from yesteryear went to the USA...

Car build of that era from any manufacturer was questionable, especially USA stuff...

The zs sells almost as many as the hrv and chr. I expect the HS to sell several hundred per month, but not as many as the CRV.

Yesterday SAIC Motors showcased already an electrified version at their new production base in Ningde, China.
MG eHS PHEV ― 9.1 kWh battery, 162hp engine + 122hp motor
A plug-in hybrid probably less expensive in top trim level than most entry level C-segment SUVs with just a combustion engine…

I wish I could like it, but my experience with a PHE Mercedes leaves me wanting - the battery pack must be good for 50 km real world electric propulsion, I doubt the 9 kwh will do that. Electrify it with 3 choices of batteries: 65, 80, 95 kwh - and a good price gap to the competition will make it into a runaway sales champ.

The longer I look at it the more intrigued I get about the MG eHS PHEV - have you been able to determine how long until MG brings it to Thailand?
