If you mean 2 Baht that would be one Troy ounce I think or 30 grams of gold. At least that's what I think. I never bought any.

A Baht of gold and a Thai baht are not the same thing.

And it's important that it's the typical colour of Thai gold and the typical design of the chain etc., is Thai. And Chinatown Bkk is very popular as a place to buy, in fact it's quite possible for some folks / families will think there is more good luck value.

In term of colour and style I made this mistake 30 years ago, I bought a beautiful (in my view) gold necklace from an accredited jewelry / gold shop in Singapore, when I came back to Bkk I gave it to my partner (a Thai doctor of medicine) she was very thankful, but I could see she was disappointed.

Took a long time but she eventually very carefully explained 'it's not Thai style / Thai gold colour'.

Maybe 2 years later we were in Singapore together, suddenly we were outside of a gold shop, she took the necklace out of her bag and said politely 'let's see if we can sell it to this shop'. We went in and 10 minutes later we walked out with cash, about 10% higher than what I had paid.

She said 'this is my money but I will use it for a treat for you, that night we had a fabulous steak dinner in perhaps the best steak house in Singapore with some nice wine.

Cost of 2 Baht Gold would be approx 40,000 THb,

If you are in Bangkok, China town would be the best

place to buy it.

Good idea ?, that's up to you,if you have the money,

buy it for her,and have no regrets if it does not work out.

your money ,do what you like.don't know why you need to ask others.

Thai girls do not see gold as a jewel as a gift

but more like a financial security.

It's why they want thai gold and in a particular shop

because they are sure about the value (Often displayed in electric showcase

with the 2 prizes sale and buy \ bat of gold) and the shop are also pawnbrokers

they take back gold as collateral and they lend cash (Of course the interests rates are high)

The “good idea” was relative to Chinatown
