Best Business Adsl Isp?

Featured Replies

Hi - we are currently using ancient dial up to a private international provider at 4 sites in Thailand and it costs a fortune.

We want to install broadband ADSL for them to save us money and to speed up the access for the end users - this is data collection in clinical trials.

Anybody you would reccommend and who to avoid?

4 different sites, 4 different accounts! With ADSL as well. for each site you'll need a different account.

the only legal way to use the same account on different sites is to use a corporate account, most with leased line, and than a VPN system wich will runn over dedicated lines as well. But the price/cost is also a fortune! And differs a lot with distance! For example, one of my customers using a leased line 512/512 (cost Baht 32,000.00 month) and the VPN, TRUE name it DDN, cost for a distance of 2 km on air and 3.5 km on line Baht 7,900 month. Include in the deal is all necessary Hardware (Cable Modems and Routers) exclude Hardware Firewall.

Depend on the location of the sites, you may need to use different ISP's as well.

Yeah it will have to be 4 different accounts - have to pay at least 1 year upfront as well to make it worth cross charging back to Europe or it will become a study cost.

Had to do the same in Singapore but its costing 3000USD a month dial up - how the hel_l it got to that I do not know.

Its 3 hospitals in Bangkok with 2 in one hospital but different depts

Is there a security reason why you can't 'piggy back' on the hospitals intranet and internet gateway to provide VPN connectivity?

Regards

No problem from our side but I have found hospitals do not want our machines on their network which I fully understand.

Its just easier all round if we pay for everything I have found.

Prakanong,

I think a solution would be to install one good (=expensive) business type adsl package at 1 location.

This will give you good international internet connectivity.

The 3 other locations you take the fastest el cheapo homepackage adsl.

On the PC connected to the business type adsl you'd need to run a proxy service.

All your incoming connections from abroad will have to connect to the PC on the business adsl, from where the proxy can redirect you to one of the other 3 PC's if needed. Should be working pretty good since the localnet on the cheap packages tends to be pretty fast, it's just the international speed which is troublesome, but since the international links come through the business package this should be circumvented!

Depending what software you use, it should be easy to connect through the correct PC by assigning different ports to the relevant programs or the proxy server.

I use this system (sort of) to access several different PC's running tightVNC behind the same firewall/intranet.

In any case, tightvnc gives pretty good performance as long as the slowest link is delivering 256kbps or higher!

Cheers Monty

Will they sell me "Home" Accounts if they are getting a PO from a very large company?

To tell the truth cost is not a problem and given our dial up costs through Infonet (Part of BT I beleive) we will be saving 000's anyway a year

There will be no real local support in-country either so the easiest set up is the one I will go for - its not a permanent solution either as the clinical trial will be over next year.
