PM Prayut: Taste, Shop, Spend scheme stimulates economy

Wanted to do my daily shopping at Tops Central Mall here in Pattaya and suddenly the whole shop was full of people. A special bus tour perhaps. When I wanted to go to the cashier there were for sure 15 to 20 people waiting at every cashier and all with filled shopping carts. This happened now the last two days. Needless to say that I canceled MY shopping. Good that I have a full fridge. But I am still wondering that they did their shopping there because Tops is not so cheap.

This is gold, giving 1,000 baht to a bunch of busted a$$ broke farmers is a success.

"We weren't sure if they would take the money. But we've managed to convince them, promotions for everyone!"

How dare they shop at your supermarket and on your shopping day!

Yes, but the recipients didn't:

1. have to spend it; they could bank it.

2. didn't have to travel to another province [city even] to spend it.

3. The equivalent amount would be approx. 3,600 baht; much more useful.

Yes but the majority did spend it and it was a major stimulus to the economy at the time

Interesting they allowed 1 millon people to register per day. The system was overloaded and by 4 am the daily allowed maximum was reached, everyday. So do the calculation, 1 million people in 4 hours = 250 k per hour. Knowing how other government systems work I find this extremely hard to believe. Oh the son tried to register for the mother inlaw not us.

Around our way it's got the shop owners and Market sellers upset because their regular customers are not coming but going across the 'border' to the next Province down the road just 10 Klicks and getting their free 1k's worth at the shops there.

In the majority of situations this free dosh is NOT being spent on 'Holidays'; i.e. Travel, Hotels and Restaurants etc, it is just a way of getting much needed free food in the larder !

Did that happen instantly?

Pretty much so.  It's good to have a niece that's an IT specialist.  She set my wife up with the app yesterday afternoon and my wife went to the shop that same evening.  It took my wife 5 minutes.  Is that instantly enough for you?

An IT specialist to set up an app?  ????

Son-in-law registered for it, said it took him two goes to get registered, staying up until 2a.m. each time due to the volume of applicants.

He spent the money in a regular supermarket in Buriram, on the way back from watching the MotoGP, something he was attending regardless of the 1,000 baht voucher.

As if they weren’t already working Uncle much too hard...now they’re even dragging him out of bed to make speeches. Poor guy is still wearing his jammies.

It took her 2 minutes in the back seat of the pickup and my wife can use it in our own province, in our own village.  Yep, IT specialist.  Hahaha

Honestly - are you serious? And if so please explain how you can spend the 1000 Baht in the neighborhood where you reside. It would be for sure helpful for many people. Not everyone seems to be as clever as your wife.

I don't know how and neither does my wife.  We are not the IT expert.  Read my post again.

I understand. I told the family of my ex girlfriend not to sit around but apply. They tried then the whole day without success - no application possible anymore. They are not happy with me... If your wife could send me a PM? Just kidding.
