Thai Visa Denied in Cambodia

Featured Replies

  • Popular Post

New to the forum after finding this website after being denied a Thai visa in Phnom Penh, Cambodia for frequently visiting Thailand and staying prolonged times. Am a Canadian passport holder.

Been traveling to Thailand since January 2019. Here's my passport entries.

1 - entry mid Jan with 2 months visa from HK.

2 - left mid March to Cambodia. Got 2 months visa there

3 - entry early April Thailand

4 - got visa extension until early July. Left early July to Hong Kong.

5 - entry early August to Thailand without visa because wanted get 30 days landing visa as needed go Singapore mid August for work

6 - left Thailand mid August

7 - re-entered Thailand 2 days later, same landing visa

8 - got visa extension to stay until mid October

9 - left to Cambodia get another 2 months, sadly, was denied.

I shown all documents they asked for. I have proof of funds in bank. Also purchased/printed out a flight out mid December.

The visa they stuck in my passport simply says "VOID WITHOUT PREJUDICE" across the visa. Also on top stamped "DENIED - Applicant has entered Thailand frequently and for long durations using tourist visas"

So I have a flight heading to Bangkok, DMK soon and hoping the immigration officers there will let me in to settle up my belongings and then fly out 1 or 2 weeks later. I have a place up north near Chiang Mai. This entire experience has been unpleasant since I never read any rules or stipulations we foreigners can be denied like this. Was quite enjoying Thai lifestyle but after this, I don't really feel welcomed ????

Can someone shed some light on what may be some alternative methods back in? I have an apartment, girlfriend and lots of things I've accumulate this past 10 months. Thanks in advance

Better go to a country where you are welcome.

  • I'm sure the IO at DMK will be happy to help you with that!

Do not fly into DM.

Either use border visa exempt (most safe) or fly to Chiang Mai.

CNX seems to not following DM (perhaps worst airport to enter. Not sure about flights from pp to CNX. Vientiane would be other option and cross friendship bridge.

PP often returns passport void stamp if you have one already from there. Which you do.

Get a letter from your girlfriend giving the address you're staying at and explaining that your reason for frequent entries is to visit her. A copy of her ID with her phone number might also help. If you are questioned and immigration call her make sure she confirms, if asked, that you do not work in Thailand - even online.

Hell, that was A LOT of entries, dont you have a job to do in your homecountry,,,, or dont you like it more here in Thailand, so you must leave and come all the time, ants in the pants like we say..

Wish I found this forum sooner. There's no direct flight to CNX from Phnom Penh. I found a flight that takes me through DMK to CNX. Already booked. Taking off in few hours ???????? I guess the worst they say is no and make me fly back or somewhere else. One can only try and plead with the immigration officer and hope he has a heart to let me back for a short stay to pack my belongings. Settle my affairs. Wish me luck

Yea good luck with that. But  seriously shouldn´t it be  much more effective to stay put one place and really focus on the mental bit of it, instead of running around in circles. Sorry to interfear by the way...

and another one.

Best of Luck getting in.

Let us know what happens. When I fly in from Cambodia, it is the only place that asks for onward ticket out of Thailand. So be prepared to buy one.

There are almost daily reports of people getting denied at airports.

Immigration has been cracking down on 'tourists' who stay in Thailand on long term basis since July 2019. The days of visa/border runs are over.

If you are good in picking up new languages , go for a short Thai course (eg. 2 to 3 months) on education visa and pack up all your things during that period.

Getting into Thailand is getting tougher and tougher for those below 50 and even above 50.

People are looking into other options like Vietnam and Philippines for the long haul.

Good luck.

I counted 7.5 months in thailand for you during 2019 on tourist visas/exempts. And your trying to come back now by visa exempt through airport. Its a dice roll but you may be ok to gather your belongings and get the hell out of dodge

He is welcome here but not by pretending to be a tourist. A cesspit like Cambodia MAY take him as a full time tourist but of course that would actually mean having to live there

With all respect... your trying to live in Thailand depending on tourist visa. All evidence shows that. I will be honest with you, find a better way to live in thailand. a wife maybe? a work maybe? maybe your a good person but i must say this kind of things are the reason for the immigration to be more and more strict. If you check this form, its full of ppl trying to live in thailand like this and asking for help...

This is normal for the Cambodia Thai consulate.

I've read a couple of posts like this in the last two months.

I'd stay a month in Cambodia, or a 3 month VISA in Vietnam.

Both easy to do, no need to rush back to Thailand.

They are enjoying themselves in The Phillipines nowadays. They can extend their tourist visas up to 3 years even without leaving. Only  pay and stay no dramas!

Seems I started quite a stir. I'm at the airport enroute to Bangkok. If I'm asked to leave, I will. Sadly, would be nice to see the gf, pack my things and to make some plans together. And to see this amazing jungle again for it seems I won't be welcomed back for at least 4 to 6 months or beyond. At least that's the impression I'm getting... ????

You can stay in los easily for 6+ month or 2 by being creative. Given that you have Thai gf I would plan 6 month in los and 6 places such as Vietnam. Personally I would do 3 in 2 out wash and repeat.

Why? I'm over 50 on extensions los 7 yr. Also obtain 3 month multi to Vietnam 4 times a year. 280usd all up. Why advise go home save money if they don't require that. Jealous?

Yes, the whole world and it's not going to get better.

Too many tourists and too many 'tourists' everywhere. Too many refugees and too many 'refugees'. Trump & the Mexican border, Australia & boat people, England & 39 Chinese dead in the back of a refrigerated truck, the whole Mediterranean coast of Europe ... Thailand is little different from most other countries in this respect, but people here always think it is uniquely targeting them.

Feeling so blessed. Thanks for those that sent prayers to source. I don't know what happened. The lady paused after 30 seconds staring my passport, looked up at me and asked how long I plan on staying? I just began talking and talking. She was confused why I asked for 2 or 4 weeks and she said to me, your visa is for 2 months. I said, oh, ok, then I'll stay 2 months as I have a ticket flying out on December 20th. She stamped the passport and off I went, quickly!! Attached is picture. Thanks for the advice everyone. I guess it took a visa denial to find this forum and also to discover Thailand is actually becoming more difficult for us tourists to stay and travel within Thailand for long term. I'll take up some new strategy and move around to different countries throughout the year. Will miss Thailand, it's been my favorite out of all countries in the world thus far. Something magical about this place, hard to describe it, just feeling.
