Stephen Morris said that he realised his mistake the next morning and felt an increasing sense of dreadWALTON/YOUTUBE

A classical violinist feels like he has “lost a limb” after leaving his 310-year-old violin worth £250,000 on a train.

Stephen Morris, who is in the middle of a UK tour with the opera singer Andrea Bocelli and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, had been in London recording at Abbey Road studios and forgot his violin when he got off the train at Penge East station a week ago.

The instrument, made in 1709, was one of the few built by David Tecchler, a leading craftsman of the 17th-century Roman school of violin-making.

Morris, 51, right, from Sydenham, south London, realised his mistake the next morning.

Wow.

Seems rather strange for him to forget the most important connection in his life.

Sure hope he finds it.

Remember:  Mind the gap:)

He only realized next morning? Really? His means of a living.

Surely someone on the train might have noticed it?

Perhaps when they opened the case as people are wont to do, they realized the quality of the contents. I hope he gets it back, no strings attached, with a large reward offered. I hope the finder is not on the fiddle and doesn't try to sell it.

Somebody will end up pawning it for 250 dollars

I feel sorry for the guy but geez I always check my pockets 3 times every time I leave a public establishment and thats  just for my mobile phone

If he he'd left it in a Thai taxi it would have been returned safely.

Well, I don't know about Mr. Stephen, but when I wake up the next morning and, only then, realise I've forgot my bag, the reason is usually pretty obvious. Funny story - I was traveling home fron London and the train kept stopping/starting. Some problem I forget what. Anyway, I took advantage of one of the stops to have a quick fag. Wouldn't you know it, without warning the doors closed and off goes the train, together with my case file for the case I had to present the next morning. Managed to wing it and retrieved the case file eventually. Hope my former bosses aren't reading this. Ah, the good old days.

i think compering a lost item to someone losing a limb is being somewhat over the top, and a very bad comparison in fact insulting to disabled people,  he lost it move on, if its worth that much it should be insured, would he give his right arm to get it back, i don't think so.

Thankfully, I have never lost either a leg or a violin. That said, if given the choice, I would opt for losing the violin.

If I were in a bad mood, I would add that this man makes a pretty stupid comparison between losing something  and becoming permanently disabled.

I think one can assume it’s a metaphor.

That thing would've been connected to me via handcuffs. He deserves Darwin award
