Went to Bangkok for a holiday, even hoping to see the zoo.  Found it closed since earlier in the year.

Have asked a few folks why the zoo closed and got no reasonable response.  Most simply said 'zoo authorities closed the zoo, sent all the animals to various domestic zoos'.

I mean WHY DID THE AUTHORITIES CLOSE THE ZOO?

Can anyone answer or is this a secret?

The zoo have been relocated to the outskirts of Bkk somewhere

Specifically, Thanyaburi in Pathum Thani province.

I am not interested in the relocation of the zoo.  Plz don't address that well known fact.

What i do want to know is WHY the zoo was forced to close after 81 years at the same location and the zoo director would not say why the zoo closed.

What i have learnt is that perhaps some unseen and opaque Thai force remains in power and operates at will, with no regard for the desires, or needs, of the people.

Obviously some hidden reason exists, or we would know the truth.

And in totally unrelated news, the Royal Turf Club was turfed out of its site in the same part of town.

The lease had expired and wasn't renewed. It was reported at the time that the land is a Crown property.

I'm sure the animals tried their best.

Given the circumstances of their captivity, I'd say they did a really good job of it.
