Popular Post owl sees all
Owl Log - 08-12-2020 - Tuesday evening A bit of sadness in the village recently. A chap under forty passed away. Mrs Owl said she knew him as a young kid. Sad. The solar farm just off H2 is being demolished. No pics of the demolition, but had a couple in the archives. 55,000 m2 farm. ((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((( A chilly spell in north Isaan. The fires have started up and everyone is well wrapped up. The skies are so clear. Six weeks since any rain. Don't expect to get any until late March. But, you never know. People have started planting sugar. Yields were poor this year and the price is just 600 baht a tonne. Some farmers are planting in soil that is bone dry. Even dryer than this time last year. (((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((( Still have the water leak outside the house. The soi dogs don't mind. ((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((( Started putting up our posters at the week end. Used wire to suspend the boards and fishing line to hold the posters. Mildred is off school on Thursday and Friday, so we'll get a couple more done. The world map, was difficult to peel off, so I'll look for a new one in the markets. And any others that I think would be educational. I was chuffed, the other day, to see Mildred showing her mate Dan where all the countries were. (((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((( They certainly like to stack em high in these parts. It's totally normal to see goods stacked so high. ((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((( Euca cutting has started. 900 baht a tonne at the present. Eucas! Me and Mrs Owl went for a walk through part of number one farm. Some fine trees. Just six months since planting. The Mrs seemed happy enough. Not all fantastic though. Plenty of micro trees and some dead uns' I'm convinced that the poorer trees had root damage when being planted. They are only two metres apart, so I don't think it's anything to do with the soil. Hopefully the grass and weeds will not need cutting until April. One or two have morphed into a multi-tree already. ((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((( Waiting for Mrs Owl to spend her dosh in the market. Had a close look at the bottle garden. More new bottles added. (((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((( Stocked up with petrol this afternoon. This lot should see our cutting man through. Keep one back for the water pump; which is in Fix Kola repair shop until tomorrow. The pull cord broke, and it needed a bit of welding done to the frame. n What are you doing in the pick-up Milly? (((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((((( Just as I was telling Kadilo about the Iron's new found consistency, they reverted back to their old ways at the week end. Should have been 5-0 up at HT. Finished up losing. What a shocker at Bolton?! Good to see some fans back. Been trying to buy some avocadoes in the markets. Supplies seem to have drip up completely. Even Big C didn't have any this evening. And broccoli! Just so expensive. Pringles are on a special at the mo'. They are in little half-tubes. Work out much cheaper though. Had to part with 6k for Mildred's school fees today. Felt like crying! What a waste of money! Two hours home-teach a day would be far better IMO. Charkie has started to eat her food much better than a while ago. I've been putting out some fish-flavoured biscuit, and she has been eating it; but not so enthusiastically. Brexit is finally about to materialise. Been a long time coming. What was it now!? June 2016! Cheap fish 'n' chips on the way. Stay safe. Bye y'all. am Edited December 8, 2020 by owl sees all

Popular Post owl sees all
Owl Log - 13-12-2020 - Sunday mid-day. Had the gang at the farm for a couple of days. The cry went up; "moo, moo" (Ngū, Ngū - snake, snake). The team quickly came over to catch it. Hiding in the weed bed. There it goes! Neil has spotted it. Wow is not so sure; or bothered. The crew soon got fed up and went back to pond six for some shrimp, snail and crab action. The leaning tree of number six pond; still leaning. jjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjj Water pump was sorted. A new pull-cord and a bit of welding. Fifty baht. jjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjj Had a bit of a shock when a roof-tile fell down. Just as well no one was about. Another ladder job, sorting out the precarious ones and fitting a new. jjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjj Had to buy a new clock. The old one fell off the wall and smashed. Mrs Owl never did like that old one. That's the Eiffel Tower depicted on the face. I think that Mr Eiffel also designed the statue of Liberty. Not sure. I'll have to check that. Another twenty baht gone. jjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjj Mildred has started the extra hour teaching at school. Not quite sure what she does. Sometimes colouring numbers. 5+5=10=red, 6-3=3=blue etc. Colour the numbers correctly, and a pretty bird, or butterfly, appears. Sometimes reading. I'd like to see her doing music or art. Have to pick her up at five. School is almost deserted then. There is something going on outside. On the other side of the road. I had to investigate. Only a few years ago this whole area was a wood; including Mildred's school. Looks like some plans for a new building. jjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjj Mildred goes back to school tomorrow. She doesn't always look too happy about it. None of the front lot do. Laughter in the back though. See you later dear. jjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjjj A bit of a family crisis. Mrs owl's brother was arrested in Laos last week. Evidently he had no paper work with him. Strange that, as going to Lao is so easy for a Thai. Takes just minutes to get a seven day pass. The police wanted 10k baht for his release. Big family discussion. Now, I'd got this brother out of Laos some years ago. 30k baht that time. Never even thought about paying me back. So! I was reluctant to contribute to the release fee. I did say however, that I'd drive to the border and wait for someone to get him out. Free of course. Anyway, he is back in Thailand now. My name is 'Mr bad-heart farang'. What was he up to? His wife will not be best pleased whatever he concocted up as a reason. Always get dry skin this time of year. The legs especially get it worse. I'm reluctant to put any cream on them, but instead I'll look up on the internet about foods that will help. The one good thing is that the mozzies don't ever seen to bother me. Fixed a new zip on Mildred's bag. Just 100 baht. This zip is not as robust as the original but if it stays intact, I'll be happy. Looks like a decent job. No more wall-boards erected for the mo'. Run out of fishing line. Get some when I pick up Mildred on Monday evening. Stay safe. Stay aware. Bye y'all. That reminds me of a funny story told to me by an Aussie expat mate over a few Leo's about his "kidnapped" Sister-in-Law... This 'family' news broke about 10 days ago. I was under the impression that he had 'just' been caught. Mrs Owl just informed me that he was detained 4 weeks ago. What do I know?! There are two theories as to why he was in Laos without documentation (so I'm told). One to buy cheap clothes to sell at the many weekly markets around here. And secondly, that he went to see a Lao lady he knew. I think personally it was to do with d---s. This particular brother is not my favourite at all. Don't trust him; don't believe him. Good job he lives in Chaipoom. This reminds me of The Poison BinL stories of old.

Just one question-are you using a new lens or camera? Thanks Ody. I use both a phone camera or Minolta Dimage. The minolta (can be used in SLR mode) has a 40 x zoom; and that's handy. If I try to zoom the phone the pics are awful. But for general snapping the phone is more suitable. When I first inherited the phone, it was on energy-saving mode. I changed it to max output, some time later, and the pics seemed to improve. Don't know if that actually made any real difference. Could it be I'm getting the hang of holding the phone still? Mildred's new phone (that's why I got her old one) takes better pics than either of mine, but I've yet to suss out how to transfer them to my computer. You need a charging cable for the phone which is also a data cable. Plug that into the phone , and the other end into a USB port on the computer. Open whatever file manager is on the computer, then go hunting in the phone for the pics. Once you have found them, it's usually just copy and paste into whatever folder you want.

Andrew Dwyer
Owl A video that maybe of interest to you: While the whole video in itself is over 3 1/2 hrs long and narrated ( translated from french ) by the most boring voice you have ever heard it is full of interesting facts, and myths, about the great pyramids. One theory that the great blocks of stone used for the pyramids, some weighing in excess of 1,000 tons were actually cast , like concrete, not sculpted from blocks. The ancient Egyptians , in the video, are given credit for discovery of many mathematical formulae, long before Archimedes and his buddies even existed, and the results can be seen in the pyramids themselves with measurements of exactly 1 metre used, with precision, in many places. Scroll forward to around the 44 minutes mark for the mathematical discovery parts of what we now call millimetre, centimetre , metre and Pi . The Golden Ratio is also mentioned and starts at 54mins. The video shows some of the dimensions , tunnels 68cm square stretching for tens of metres yet perfectly straight and with tiny variations in tolerances for example, used in the construction of the pyramids and how they would be difficult to replicate with today’s technology and machinery available . Yup, I’m half way through and find the video makes a lot of claims !!, from in which exact order parts were constructed to what tools and forms were used when no trace of either remains. I’m up to a part about how statues and vases were made from a rock harder than granite !! Some of the theories in the video may seem a little far fetched but compared with the alternatives are still worthy of attention. The 10k was sent bank acc' to bank acc' by Guy. Evidently he (the BinL) did not go through the official channels to get to Laos (if he did). Small ferry boats are the means. There are two people in the village that have done the same so I know this is a regular way of getting back and forth. After some delicate questions, that got the Mrs upset, I don't think the Laos police - or anyone else in authority - had anything to do with it all. TBH I'm not sure he was in Laos in the first place. The worst thing is that he is staying at his mother's housel just 40 metres away. Although I haven't seen him yet. Don't want to either. The mystery continues. 2
