The cabinet on Tuesday (November 26) approved a draft of the Social Security Act on preventing or solving the problem of teenage mothers. The draft will be in accordance with the Prevention and Solution of Adolescent Pregnancy Problem Act 2016.

The draft requires that:

1. The Department of Women’s Affairs and Family Development provide training and jobs for teenage mothers;

2. The Department of Children and Youth seek volunteers to provide care for children in case teenage mothers become incapacitated; and

3. Counselling services or advice centres be opened for teenagers and families. The centres should also provide suitable and safe accommodation and coordinate with relevant departments to provide appropriate education for teen mothers.

The draft also set a proactive approach by supporting the Children and Youth Council of Thailand, which can help in the prevention, remedy or monitoring of adolescent pregnancies.

Not one mention of the guys responsible for impregnating them?

Seems to be a cultural problem, if the girl says no, both parties lose face. When more emphasis is placed on face than on reality, there are bound to be problems! This doesn't just apply only to teen pregnancy!

Comprehensive sex education along with free birth control might lower the number of teen mothers. Just sayin'....

Seems one crucially important point is missing in that agenda; unsurprisingly I might add:

4. Identification and location of the father and ensuring - if necessary by legal enforcement - that he takes responsibility, including financial support for the mother and child.

thats where "joe expat" comes in as surrogate / sponsor father

if the justice system made the real fathers pay up there'd be new threads on the forum about "where have all the bar/gogo girls gone"

Nope they are well off the radar as soon as the girl misses the period.

As said in previous post: education, education, Education. Not only for the teens but adults. Had a couple in the village let their 14 year old daughter move her 14 year old bf in. You will never guess what: pregnant and married when she was only 15. Who would have thunk it?
