Market unease shouldn’t scare off investors, says wealth manager

The index on Friday (November 29) closed at 1,590.59, 0.45 per cent down from the previous week, with daily turnover at Bt56.3 billion, up 23.2 per cent.  A lower boundary for this week is expected of 1,575 or 1,550 and an upper bound of 1,605 or 1,615, according to Kasikorn Securities.

SET suggests cryptocoin to protect overseas transactions

SET president Pakorn Peetathawatchai has floated the idea of issuing a type of virtual currency to support Thai investors eyeing equities and other assets abroad.

 

The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) is considering issuing a stable token coin that Thai speculators could use to invest in financial assets abroad and lower the risks encountered due to exchange-rate volatility.

Majority of Thais agree with conscription – Super Poll

81.9% of respondents to a Super Poll agree that there is no better alternative to conscription when ensuring national security and that assistance is available to Thai people in cases of a natural disaster or civil unrest. 18.1% insist, however, that there are better alternatives, such as voluntary enlisting or paying the state to avoid conscription.

Woman killed, thrown out of car overturned on bypass road

PHUKET: A woman died after she was thrown out of a car while it overturned on the bypass road early this morning (Dec 1), while two women escaped serious injuries as the car they were travelling in slammed into a power pole in Srisoonthorn some 20 minutes later.

PHUKET: Five Turkish tourists were injured after a pickup truck slid out of control and slammed head-on into a passenger van on the east side of Patong Hill yesterday afternoon (Nov 30).

Another dugong found dead on Koh Yao Noi, Phang Nga Bay

On November 30, the Department of Marine and Coastal Resources, received a report about another dead dugong in Phang Nga Bay. Local people found the dugong washed up on Tha Khao Beach in Moo 5, Yao Noi Island, located between Phuket and Krabi.

PHUKET: As the dust settled on the building collapse that killed seven workers and left two more in hospital last week, the Thai bureaucracy trundled out the same old incredibly insensitive mantra – the families will be compensated, as if that were the top priority when seven people are crushed to death by a slab of concrete.

(Reuters) - The bodies of five migrants who died when a boat capsized in rough waters off the southern Lampedusa coast a week ago have been found, Italy's coast guard said on Sunday, bringing the overall death toll to 18.
