Despite the office being packed as a result of computer problems in the morning l successfully completed my retirement extension (money in the bank method) within one and a half hours this afternoon.

The only change is that at my next 90 day report l have to produce my bank book to show that the money is still on deposit in the bank.

The staff were friendly and helpful as always, despite the crowd which they handled quite efficiently.

What was your original visa?

Is this your first extension?

Did they require insurance? (If your original visa was O-A) Any insurance details would be interesting as well.

Presumably they want you to return in 90 gays for a bank balance check and not for a 90 day report for having stayed in Thailand for a continuous 90 days. They are not the same thing.

This is my 15th+  extension of a Non O visa so no question of insurance arose.

I should have said that l did my 90 day report at the same time. The IO kindly gave me the same date for my next 90 days and to produce my bank book. A note about the latter was clipped into my passport.

Which is just another example of rogue imm office asking for check of bankbook after 3 months. Utter nonsense. Why can't imm head bring various imm office into some vague consistency.

The point is that there are NO rules. Every office can run their own agenda.

Nothing wrong with any country having rules. Just would be good (normal) if there was universal enforcement.

I think there must be some uniformity, Jomtien office in Pattaya asks for the same check.

Good to hear & thank you for posting.

I have had 28 extensions on two different visa types & was always done with a smile & politeness.

I think they can suss out the ones who are fudging something or have a bad attitude

There are very few offices that require show bankbook after 3 months. Jomtien is one. The smallish office 2 hours up the road name CW do not require this nonsense.

Did my retirement extension yesterday.  Had all the papers and copies and money in bank.  I had been to the bank that morning for the bank letter and update of my bankbook.  Went to IO and of course they have a new rule.

They wanted a Statement of my account for the last 6 months.  After resisting this for a short time I returned to the bank and asked for a Statement printout of my account for the last 12 months.  200 baht fee.  Returned to IO and received my extension.  Nothing about showing bankbook in next 90 day report.  No question about insurance, Non-O visa

Kind of strange but the guy just said new rule.  Never know what they want.  Just glad it is over for another year.

How do you know how many are asking for this check?

As long as IO have discretionary powers the rules will change according how they feel at any given moment. It might be how hungry they are, it might be if they slept well last night, it might be the colour of your shirt. Any factor they want can make them be difficult...because they can.

Yes they do, and it would seem sadly lacking if the requirements made by immigration, of keeping the 800k for 3 months and thereafter 400k, are not verified at some time. I am a little concerned that this will become part of future application checks, made at the next extension. If it happens, it will be post March 2020, a year after the requirements became 'law'.

Thanks for all the comments guys.

I dont have any problem with being asked to produce my bankbook after 3 months. Its not a request by the staff, its what their instructions are. Thats fine by me.

As for producing Bank statements as part of the docs for the extension, I have had to include that for years.

A little additional input on the continuing variation in Retirement extension requirements. Nakhon Nayok needed the bank statement, a map and IO visit same as the Marriage extension, and, in answer to the question of 'How is the 3 month 800,000 baht verification to be performed?", was told that the IO office would contact the bank. The IO folks were friendly, but it is apparent that the new requirements have many loose ends left in the hands of local administrators. Should be interesting...

I have a marriage extension coming up mid January. Past 4 extensions never required bank "statements", only bank letter and photocopies of bank book pages for past 3 months (or so).

Guess I better get statements this time.

I assume that the bank "letter" is good for a few days because it takes my BB branch all of that to get one from HQ! Unless they now have a template one on their local computer by now ??

Discussion point.
800,000THB untouched for three months is only one stipulation. 400,000THB should remain untouched after that and the 800,000THB has to be restored some months before the renewal is due. If the first stipulation is so important then why not the others especially since they represent longer periods of non compliance?

My view is that there is no need to check and that it will soon be abandoned in favour of a check at renewal.

l cant comment about marriage extension. But for my retirement extension the bank statement and bank letter had to be dated the same day as l made the application. For me that means a bank visit in the morning which takes about 30 minutes (not Bangkok Bank) and then head to the IO in the afternoon.
