A change of rule for extensions?

Featured Replies

As far as I remember, extensions used to start on the day the previous extension expired, never mind when you applied for the renewal.

For example, if you had a retirement extension ending on December 20, you would visit your immigration office, say on December 5, and be granted a new extension taking effect on December 20.

Well, at least in Sisaket, this is not the case anymore.

The extension starts on the date of application.

In the example above, that means that your new extension starts on December 5, and that you lose the 15 days up to December 20.

That may not seem much, but year after year it a quickly adds up...

Is it the same everywhere, or is it specific to Sisaket?

I'm guessing the IO made a mistake.

not the case in Nakon Si Thamarat, Trang or Krabi, they still give the same date as the previous, family members and friend just did theirs

Mistake. Go back ask them to amend.

Ask them for petrol and lunch money for your trip.

This has happened to me before, but only when changing the reason for the extension. I.E. I was on an extension based on retirement and changed to one based on marriage, so my new extension started on the date I applied. Same happened when I changed back from marriage to retirement. This was at Kap Choeng Immigration. Prior to that, I changed the reason for the extension from retirement to marriage and the new extension started after my current permission to stay expired. This was at Korat.

yes if you change from retirement to marriage it will start that day

So OP, Steve advice correct. You start a thread and battery go flat?

Question is every extension is based on...

retirement or ME or whatever. Did you change your "extension based on ####"?

So your passport is stamped for renewal on the day you want in, not the true date of expiration?

This is the reason...I am changing from family to retirement extension...so that explains it...thanks...
