BANGKOK(NNT) - A meeting of the Sustainable Development Committee, chaired by the Deputy Prime Minister, Gen. Prawit Wongsuwan, is to apply His Majesty the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s principle of "Understand, Access and Develop" in its work to create balance in the economy, society and the environment and to reduce inequality.

Gen. Prawit delivered a policy statement at the Sustainable Development Committee meeting, saying the principle of "Understand, Access and Develop" has to be applied to achieve sustainable development.

The government recognizes the importance of having people at the center of sustainable development, which is in line with its national strategy. It is aimed at creating balance in the economy, society and the environment, without leaving anyone behind. Thailand still has many issues to be addressed and it needs cooperation by all sectors to achieve the United Nations’ (UN) Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for 2030.

The meeting also acknowledged the Sustainable Development Report 2019. Thailand ranked 40th out of 162 nations, up from 59th - moving up 19 places from last year, in the UN’s SDGs. Thailand ranked first in ASEAN.

The meeting considered and approved draft plans for driving SDGs at both the local and national levels.

Gen. Prawit instructed the Ministry of the Interior and related units to work with the National Economic and Social Development Council (NESDC) to support sustainable development projects in six provinces, by focusing on work integration, adopting a people-centered approach, reducing inequality and carrying out public relations activities to promote public participation and achieve sustainable results.

What the hell does 'sustainability' actually mean?

To me it sounds like a meaningless virtue signalling weasel word stuck onto any project to impress the uninformed.

Yes you've isolated the sole modus operandi of this fake administration and the fact that those that utter these nonsense words don't actually know the meaning of the words attributed to them is of no consequence to them at all. It's all smoke and mirrors and snouts in the trough! You may have noticed the complete lack of any action by these crooks other than fill their own despotic pockets with the hard earned of the populous.

Another character who has no idea what he is talking about, if this country does not radically change, will be destined to compete with the last of the world rankings very soon!
