To mark the end of a tumultuous and titter filled year on Thaivisa I present my review of some of the stories and themes that have marked the last 12 months in Thailand. Phuket beach safety hits top-level agenda

PHUKET: Beach safety took a serious step forward this week as the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation office for Phuket in collaboration with the Phuket Disaster Resilience Foundation (PDRF) conducted a Phuket Beach Safety Workshop at the Tree House K PARK Phuket hotel in Phuket Town.

PHUKET: Search teams today found the body of missing tour boat crewman Kittpong Samanbut, who fell overboard in a deadly collision of the tour boat he was working on with a large motoryacht off Koh Khai Nok late Wednesday afternoon (Dec 18).

Man who used Twitter and postal service to distribute meth arrested

The Office of the Narcotics Control Board (ONCB) said it has arrested an individual who sold methamphetamine or “ice” through social media platform Twitter and also distributed the drug via post.

Thai retailers to stop giving plastic bags from Jan 1

Around 75 brands under the Thai Retailers Association will stop providing plastic bags from January 1 in a bid to reduce the whopping 13.5 billion, or 30 per cent, of plastic bags used in Thailand annually.

Hua Hin: Expect traffic disruption as railway piers constructed in Bon Kai

ABIDJAN/BAMAKO (Reuters) - French forces killed 33 Islamist militants in Mali on Saturday using attack helicopters, ground troops and a drone, near the border with Mauritania where a group linked to al Qaeda operates, French authorities said.

Why I can only see great things ahead for Pattaya

I was with a businessman who operates around the Soi LK area of Pattaya the other day and he was moaning about the state of Pattaya. For him the town was all doom and gloom and any talk of a golden era emerging he would scoff at.

PM orders prompt assistance for southern flood victims

BANGKOK(NNT) - Prime Minister and Defense Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha has ordered authorities to promptly provide assistance to flood victims in Narathiwat province and closely follow the situation. Meanwhile, flooding in Yala province has subsided with less rainwater but villagers in risky areas have to stay on alert.
