Can I use a yellow book instead of a certificate of residence from immigration for a 5 year renewal at DLT? Would save me 1K baht.

When I renewed my Drivers licence in Ratchaburi provence 3 weeks ago the DLT asked if I had a yellow book. I don't have a yellow book and had already obtained o CofR at immigration.

So you can use a yellow book instead of a CofR at DLT, maybe not all accept a yellow book. TIT!

Interestingly Thailand is listed as  accepting the 1968 Vienna Convention IDP and the 1949 Geneva Convention IDP but even though it did ratify the 1926 Paris convention IDP it is not showing as currently accepting it.

If you looked that up in WiKipedia: it's plain wrong.

That's why I wrote about the experience with the 1968 IDP at DLTs (not only one, multiple reports from Pattaya e.g.)?

My mate didn't make the effort to get this antiquated document just for fun.

This ignorance is a superb example how to promote tourism to Thailand, NOT.

Seems to be 3 in Chonburi

This Nong Yai was new to me and Si Racha missing, so I checked the Chonburi DLT website.

They indeed  show four offices in Chonburi province.

Couldn't get it all in English:

Chonburi City,

Nong Yai District Branch,

EDIT: johng is too fast.

Si Racha District Branch,

Bang Lamung District Branch ("Pattaya", "near Regent school"),

https://goo.gl/maps/9aFyPAz697tuGpkG9

As far as I know you can do license extension at every DLT branch nationwide.

When I said there was on in Sattahip.. may have been a brain fart but I'm pretty sure someone reported there is one there too.

I couldn't find it. But who knows... always good for a surprise.

If so and you know this to be absolutely correct then it would be a public service to edit the Wikipedia page. (I don’t so will not)

Sorry, but absolutely no experience and English not my language.

German version gives the correct hint.

And the topic is even more complicated.

1968 treaty signed but not ratified by Thailand.

But here my juristic horizon ends.

For many years no one cared about this subtlety but since ...

you know.

So just to clarify (I am not arguing the point) you state that Thailand accepts the 1926 and 1949 but not the 1968 IDPs or some permutation of that.

As Germany isn’t a party to the 1949 convention this could quite possibly affect the German sourced information, could it not? As the 1949 one is the IDP most commonly issued for use in Thailand

Thanks for the info. Now to check if Udon Thani DLT allows this...

There is no LTO in Sattahip, full stop.  Going South of Pattaya the first LTO is in Rayong (Rayong province)

Pattaya,  LTO has had a long standing con game going with Pattaya Immigration since they won't accept a Yellow book but insist on Residency Certificate, knowing that most people won't go all the way into Bangkok to get one from their respective Embassies but will pay the vig at Jomtien for one

There are some countries, France is one, that issue 3 year IDPs. However your insurance will almost certainly only cover you for driving without a Thai licence for 90 days from your last entry, so while the police may allow you to use the IDP together with your foreign licence for longer it’s an extremely bad and dangerous idea to do that

Most helpful advice, thank you.
