Remember it well; we even had the legendary tin bath in front of the fire for the first few years of my life, the family taking it in turns to use the water.

Even in later years I remember my girlfriend telling her father, who was a painter and decorator, that he was looking rather dirty after completing a job. Her mother took umbrage at this comment; "Dirty, he's not dirty. I make sure he has a bath once a week whether he needs it or not!"

Good read this week BTW

As do I...

Rooster is just so british in his writing, it's great, love it...

My vote for ladyboys pronoun is definitely 'He'.

Never saw the logic of anything other......

and totally agree with you about dogs. Perhaps if all the medical care given to ladyboy treatments was focused on dogs we could cut down on the numbers?

Thank you.

Yes, my brother and I shared the bath water as I recall. The sisters had what they referred to as their hair washing night when they didn't go out. Growing up with such things meant that arriving in Thailand was something of a revelation!

Cheers for reading.

Ha.

Try as they might, in 35 years the Thais have never quite beaten the British out of me. But they get used to it.

Mrs R knew something was up this morning with the resigned and glum face.

"Harry is injured isn't he?" improved my mood a tad.

I tend to agree with he....especially as they don't usually

have a hee.

An interesting read as always, and...

A breathless tale of the BJ's rapid rise and fall; you must be spent...

I have to confess; I have never understood TVF's fascination with Big Joke. All I ever saw was a credit-hogging, glory-seeking, media-worshiping, spotlight-stealing civil servant in a brown suit.

Did crime drop while he was in charge? Not that I know of.

Were the police less... er... ahem... 'tea-drinking' during his time? Not that I know of.

Did Immigration improve under his tenure? Not that I know of.

Were any major crimes solved while he was in charge? Not that I know of.

Were tourists safer while he was the boss? Not that I know of.

Did anything improve during his tenure? Nothing that I could reasonably credit to him or his actions.

All I saw was a guy from a wealthy family rapidly rise, by... er... ahem... ah... means unknown, to the top levels of the police bureaucracy. A police force sometimes labeled 'Asia's Biggest Gang'.

Sorry, but unless there is something that I am missing, this whole story could be labeled;

"Unknown Things Happened To Some Guy, With A Few Gun Shots Added"

Another great read, thank you.

Good read Rooster even if I disagree with you about dogs.

But you did write one boo-boo that you should have known better.

Readers will appreciate that CP already runs 7-Eleven and Central own Big C. Whoever wins the contract will have no need to wage price wars benefiting us.

Central doesn't own Big C. It is owned by Charoen Sirivadhanabhakdi's TCC. He is not a bidder for Tesco-Lotus & whether CP or Central buy it, it will be a duopoly, not a monopoly of the big supermarkets.

Big Joke just a honest post worthy chap that outshines all the current trash. Unfortunately a shooting star that was shot down in a blaze of glory.

The whole world knows the RTP are just organised criminals in inform. Ran by pensioners who have no business in a leather chair other than the barber shop.

Yes, Charoen bought out the Casino stake at 58%. The founders were Central and are reportedly still involved hence the investigation by the authorities into potential monopolies. It may not be cut and dried but there is a case to answer or at least explain should Tesco be purchased by Central. I based my comments on these understandings.

Fair point. 42% (which I didn't realise) is a significant holding by Central in Big C. I do hope (but not necessarily expect) that if Central gains control of Tesco-Lotus they are forced to sell their Big C shareholding.

The Thai market badly needs a bit more diversity.

(I take back the 'boo-boo' Rooster)

Thanks for another great read Rooster I will have to read your column from

my Thailand address for the next 2 months. I will not miss the -27C temperature

for a while. I just hope the rain falls where it is needed in Thailand and

not too close to the ocean in the Golf areas.

Bath once a week! Figures! When I smell body odour in the BTS I know there is a Farang on board. Thais are the cleanest people I’ve ever met.

Don't know about the UK but in the US that was before indoor plumbing and running water. The shack we lived in for about 2 years didn't have indoor plumbing and this was in the mid 60s

Yes, it is hard to imagine a time, when I was young, when people bathed once a week.

Unthinkable now.
